Can Stephen Curry's Olympic debut be the game-changer Team USA needs to dominate in Paris?

Stephen Curry is a revolutionary for the game of basketball. The 34-year-old shooting marksman has won it all: four titles, two MVPs, a Finals MVP, and more. Yet, one of the major honors eluded him until this year. Chef Curry has never donned the Team USA jersey for the Olympics. “It would mean everything”, Curry said on making his debut at the Paris Olympics 2024. His words were resounding.

Curry is famously part of Team USA, which is comparable to the 1992 Dream Team. It has united basketball genius, excellence, and stardom, all with the group traveling to Paris. For fans, it’s a treat. They get to witness LeBron James and Stephen Curry fighting for the same cause. They will also see a rewind from the past, with Kevin Durant and the Baby-Faced Assassin running motions together again. Even the Slim Reaper is looking forward to sparking the connection once again after five years.

“It’s great. Exciting times. He’s at a point in his career where this is probably the last thing he wants to check off on his resume. His energy is very very high, being around him is pretty cool. He’s incredible. Great guy to be in a locker room with, a team-first player,” Durant said about his former teammate, according to Euro Hoops.

So far, Stephen Curry has been an illuminating linchpin for Team USA during the exhibitions. In the last game, the four-time champion exploded for 24 points, raining down threes for fun. Given Durant’s injury, the tandem is yet to feature together. However, the former Thunder forward resumed practice with Team USA in London yesterday and could make his first appearance against South Sudan tonight.

If so, the dreaded and incredible synergy between Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant could be on full display.

Kevin Durant has never had a teammate like Stephen Curry

Kevin Durant is a generational bucket-getter. Nearly seven feet tall, the wiry forward is versatile enough to shoot the ball while also having a notorious handle to get past defenders with ease. Before Curry, he had to face the burden of defenses trying to prevent him from getting a touch. But when he joined the Warriors, the floor began to open up. All of a sudden, there was space, and it was due to one man: Stephen Curry.

The perimeter threat of Stephen Curry and the well-rounded offense of Durant made the opposition tremble. Who do they try and stop? In 168 games together, the tyrant scorers each averaged over 25 points per game. Additionally, the Golden State Warriors only lost 37 of those games when the two of them were on the floor together.

Curry never held any resentment toward his former teammate for abruptly leaving him stranded, but he didn’t mince words when telling Kevin Durant about the scathing success they could have together. “I made sure I was open and available about how I felt about him as a person, as a player, how confident I was we would be able to win for a long time,” admitted the leading three-point scorer in NBA history.

It might not happen in the NBA, but at least the tandem reunites for a purpose much bigger. They will stand shoulder to shoulder when defending the honor of their country as the basketball giants.
