The Phoenix Suns bulldozed through the Brooklyn Nets tonight. Kevin Durant had another dominant performance as he led the game in scoring with 33 points, 8 assists, and 5 rebounds. But tonight was a memorable night for KD for more reasons than one. The Nets franchise honored their former superstar upon his return to Brooklyn with a tribute video despite Durant claiming he did not want it.

Three days ago, Durant replied to a poll on X on whether the Nets should give him a tribute video. “Please don’t, the night will be better without it.” The 2-time Champion wrote. However, Durant redeemed himself with a wholesome response after the game about eventually getting the Nets tribute video. “I had some great moments here. A lot of stuff that flew under the radar. But everybody in this organization and my teammates, we understood what the moment was like. Something I’m always gonna remember playing here.” Durant said in his post-game interview.

Durant continued praising the Nets organization during the post-game press conference. “That shows a great organization when you can appreciate everyone who stepped in and put their blood, sweat, and tears in. So, I respect that.” He added. Durant signed with the Brooklyn Nets in 2019 but missed the entire 2019-20 season due to an Achilles injury. He stayed in Brooklyn for three more seasons but was unable to make a significant run in the playoffs. Most of it was not Durant’s fault because the Nets were dealing with a lot of drama surrounding James Harden and Kyrie Irving. However, one moment could have changed the history of the Nets organization.

The Brooklyn Nets were an inch away from glory

The history of Kevin Durant in Brooklyn could have been a lot different if they had not been unlucky in the 2021 playoffs. KD was having an incredible season with the Nets and led them to the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals in 2021. They took the Milwaukee Bucks to 7 games and had a chance to beat the eventual Champions. With the Nets trailing by 2 points in the final seconds of Game 7, Kevin Durant shot a three-pointer to eliminate Giannis Antetokounmpo and Co. Unfortunately, KD’s feet touched the three-point line, and the shot was ruled a two-pointer.

Although Durant tied the game with his shot, the Nets eventually got eliminated in overtime. Had Durant’s feet been an inch behind the three-point line, they would have moved on to the Conference Finals. Not only would that have affected Kevin Durant’s legacy in Brooklyn, but also Giannis Antetokounmpo’s legacy, who was pursuing his first NBA Championship.
