The Phoenix Suns were one team that fans were excited to watch at the start of the season. Having added another All-Star to their All-Star duo of Kevin Durant and Devin Booker, was something the world wanted to see. But so far, the Suns have underperformed immensely leading the Suns All-Star forward Kevin Durant to come out and get brutally honest about the team’s situation after a close win against one of the worst teams in the East.

Having barely scraped a win against the struggling Washington Wizards, Durant got candid about the Suns’ season so far.

The Phoenix Suns barely scraped by the Washington Wizards in a 112-108 win in their most recent matchup. Suns were missing Bradley Beal once again due to an ankle injury he sustained a few games ago. The Wizards gave the Suns a run for their money. A matchup that should’ve easily been a walk in the park turned out to be much more than what Phoenix was expecting.

After the game, Kevin Durant got brutally honest about the Suns’ recent struggles. According to Suns writer Gerard Bourguet, while talking to the media, Durant said, We didn’t splinter, we stayed together. We’ve been struggling, and wins are hard to come by in this league.”

Kevin Durant led the Suns with a 28-point performance, paired with 5 assists and 5 rebounds for the game. He also got a tremendous boost from Devin Booker who had 27 points along with 8 assists and 4 rebounds. Jusuf Nurkić, too, did a great job rebounding, nabbing 17 boards for the game. But other than that, there wasn’t any other Suns player whose performance stood out.

Are the Suns really in trouble?

The Washington Wizards came into this matchup with a mindset to win. Four out of the team’s five starters finished in double-digits. Had someone taken over the game for Washington, the outcome of the matchup would’ve been quite different. Now, even though the Suns won this game, it does create a certain tension among fans and even players. If the Wizards, who are 4-21 so far this season, can give Phoenix such a fight, will the Suns be able to fend off the better teams in the league?

Their concerns are pretty valid. The Suns have faced the Lakers (15-11) thrice this season and have lost all three games. They’ve lost two games against a struggling San Antonio side (4-21) and have faced defeat against the Philadelphia 76ers (18-7) as well. In all of those performances, they didn’t have their full side, with at least one of their Big 3 out injured. But for a side built to win championships, can they really afford to have players missing, especially when they traded away a significant portion of their bench for them?

If this goes on, then the Suns are in some serious trouble. The team is currently in the 10th spot in the Western Conference with a 14-12 record. For context, the Golden State Warriors, who are having an abysmal season, sit on 11th. If Phoenix needs to turn things around, then some serious changes to their game plan need to be made.
