Obviously, being an NBA superstar has its perks. Earning millions while being recognized by people all over the world, playing in the league turns athletes into global celebrities. But that luxury is no match to the feeling of pride that players get while representing their country in the Olympics. And Team USA’s Kevin Durant dove into that feeling after the thrilling 95-91 semi-final win over Serbia as he became envious of the opposing nation while slamming the USA with a harsh claim.
With the entire nation divided because of the upcoming Presidential elections in November, KD reflected on how sports can help close that gap, “I mean, there’s so much divide in our country. There’s so much divide in the world that sports is an opportunity for us to all come together and compete.” Moreover, he also had mixed feelings about the condition America is in right now. “We love playing for our country, and a lot of bullsh*t goes on in our country, too. But there’s a lot of great things that come from where we come from. So, we love that,” he stated proudly.
However, participating in a global event like the Olympics makes KD realize what national pride means for citizens of other countries: “You see the pride that Serbia has for their country. You see fans singing the national anthem throughout the game. You play Brazil, you see their fans and the pride they have for their country.” Playing in his fourth straight Olympics and pursuing his fourth gold medal at the event, no one on Team USA understands national pride better than Kevin Durant. And despite the good the bad and the ugly, he understands the importance of suiting up for the USA at the prestigious event, “I love representing my country. We all love representing our country. You see the pride about your country when you come to play in the Olympics.”

Is Kevin Durant the greatest Team USA player ever?
With Kevin Durant boasting about representing his nation, he might very well be the greatest Team USA player to ever do it. Even before participating in the Paris event, he had amassed an incredible Olympic resume with three gold medals in three appearances. The only player with more hardware is NBA legend Carmelo Anthony, with three golds and a bronze medal. But with Team USA booking their spot in the final after the win against Serbia, KD is sure to secure at least a silver medal this year, putting him a rank above Melo.
On top of that, Durant is also the all-time leading scorer for Team USA in the Olympics. Although he already led the men’s division before the tournament began, he surpassed WNBA legend Lisa Leslie’s 488 points in the quarter-final against Brazil after scoring 11 points in that game. Accumulating 503 points so far in the Olympics, KD has become the highest-scoring American athlete in Olympic basketball history. But despite his individual achievements, he has only one goal in mind: “Records are meant to be broken, so somebody will come along and do the same to me… My focus is on trying to win this gold.”

By the way things have gone so far, KD will likely achieve that goal in a couple of days when Team USA faces France in the finals. And going perfect in the Olympics with his fourth straight gold will surely make him the greatest Team USA player ever. Do you agree?
