It seems Kevin Durant has been the center of failed experiments. It began when he joined the Brooklyn Nets with Kyrie Irving and James Harden. In a matter of four seasons, they disbanded without even making a single NBA Finals. This season, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal were touted to run circles around the league defenders. However, their reputation as offensive killers didn’t translate to success as they bounced out in the first round against Anthony Edwards‘ Timberwolves.
This got the fans thinking about Durant’s next move. Is it time to move on to greener pasture or run it back once again with an improved roster? A fan on X decided to create a situation where Durant returns to Oklahoma and leads Shai-Gilgeous Alexander and the young Thunder to their maiden championship. According to the X user, it was “The only way KD can redeem his legacy” comparing it to LeBron James returning to Cleveland for a second stint and leading them to an unprecedented victory in 2016.
He kindly asked the Easy Money Sniper for his opinion. In typical Kevin Durant style, he decided to reply with absolute brutality. “U ain’t god. Go get ready for work“ the four-time scoring champion wrote in response to the fan’s legacy-saving suggestion.

U ain’t god. Go get ready for work
— Kevin Durant (@KDTrey5) June 11, 2024
Kevin Durant has two more years on his contract with the Phoenix Suns. But that has never stopped any NBA star from pursuing a move. Durant too has done it in the past. And if he does go again, OKC wouldn’t be a bad stop. Led by an MVP-caliber SGA, the Thunder are young and enthusiastic. All they lack is the presence of a veteran, someone who can bail them out when anxiety and nerves kick in. Who better than Kevin Durant, who led them to their last Finals appearance?
The Slim Reaper was drafted by the Thunder organization when they were still the Seattle Supersonics. He spent nine seasons in the city, becoming one of the most celebrated athletes in Oklahoma. His synergy with fellow All-Star Russell Westbrook was electric and brought excitement to the Thunder. He even won his only MVP title as part of the organization.
While he has since turned a villain, this could be his chance to change fate’s ideas. If Durant leads the team that gave him the keys in the past, it will be the perfect full-circle moment in a career that is vastly misunderstood.
Kevin Durant could leave in the offseason
Even though Durant wasn’t appreciative of fans drawing scenarios for him, there is a realistic chance that the Suns might be forced to trade the generational scorer. Due to the signing of Beal, the Suns depleted their financial resources and are unable to sign any free agent this offseason. They are already burdened by the second apron of the luxury tax and are desperate to add a sound big man behind D-Book and other scoring threats.
The one way that is possible is by using Durant’s $51 million salary to lure multiple pieces. The early favorites to land the slender forward seem to be the New York Knicks. After a relatively successful postseason inspired by Jalen Brunson’s masterful display, the franchise will address its immediate need to compete for a title. With them able to hang without All-Star Julius Randle, they could look to ship him in exchange for a transformational addition. Not much gets better than Kevin Durant.

He would fit in as a menacing scorer besides Brunson’s domineering inside play and expert footwork. New York has become exciting once again since Brunson draped their colors. Moreover, they are also likely to sign OG Anunoby to the long-term deal ensuring their viability on both sides of the game.
The question is will Kevin Durant be up for the challenge of playing in New York, one of the most demanding and unforgiving markets in 36? Also, if you wish to see Shaq’s ex-agent Leonard Armato speak highly of Caitlin Clark, watch this video below.
