Last night wasn’t a pretty affair for the two slender men of the NBA world. Victor Wembanyama, who is touted as the next face of the NBA, succumbed to a rare injury. And Kevin Durant, taking on the short-handed SA Spurs, suffered an embarrassing defeat. While we are yet to hear from the 21-year-old big man, KD spoke for both. The superstar not only dropped much-needed advice to the ailing baller but issued a new directive to the struggling Phoenix Suns.
We will address them one by one. Yesterday, the Spurs dropped on the devastating news. The 21-year-old center, who rocked the All-Star weekend, suffered a deep vein thrombosis, a dangerous blood clot on his right shoulder. The team immediately ruled him out for the rest of the season and promised that he would return for the next season. While it is still an uncertain situation, the league has to wait for at least 8 months to see him in action.
As a player who has gone through tough injury-recovery phases, Kevin Durant gave much-needed advice over the long healing process. Throughout his career, he has had various injuries and missed games. But out of all, the 2019 Achilles tear was the most devastating one. He missed the entire 2019-20 season. Here, Wemby will be missing 30-odd games but still needs time to recover and get back on the court. Speaking of that, KD said, “It is tough to deal with initially as weeks and months pass, you just gotta deal with it normally.”

It might seem like a lethargic response, but it’s the beginning of the wisdom he was about to drop. Speaking after the embarrassing loss against the Spurs, Slim Reaper selflessly took his time out for the young gun. He added, “Be patient that’s the most you can do. You can’t get back on the court. Being upset about it is not gonna do much for you.” Above all, he suggested Wemby some activities like building Lego or reading books to take his mind off.
Kevin Durant, who’s dealt with a long recover from injury, on what might be ahead for #VictorWembanyama
“…go find some more Legos to put together, read some new books and then when it’s time to get back on the court…lock in…”

These words are indeed tough pills to swallow but Wemby has no option. Nevertheless, KD issued a battle cry to the Spurs player, “When it’s time to get back on the court to start working and stuff, Lock-in.“ Even after dropping valuable wisdom, he had some more left in his tank. This time, for his teammates.

Kevin Durant torches the beacon of hope on the Valley side
Standing on the 11th seed with a 26-29 record, the Suns have little margin for error. Last night, the Suns took on the Texas side at Moody Center, Austin, a place where KD has a huge emotional connection. So, it was a home-away-from-home game. With a crowd standing by him and Wemby not playing, the Suns were destined to win except it didn’t happen.
Undoubtedly a frustrating loss, as KD said, “It gets a lil frustrating you take an L.” But he didn’t let it take over his head. He wished the same for his teammates. He added, “You know, there’s beauty in the struggle.“ Kevin Durant was indeed in the mood for some philosophy.

He further wanted to turn the struggle into gold, saying, “You realize that pressure from hard times made you better. You think we can pool from all these experiences to get better and use it for the next game.” The 2x NBA Champ seemed determined on two things. He didn’t want to feel sorry for the loss. Instead, he wanted to move forward. “You don’t play great that day, try to do it the day after that until the season is over. That’s the mindset we are all trying to have,” the big man concluded.
It may sound like wisdom for a basketball player, but at the end of the day, it is for everyone. If you cannot do it today, do it the next day!
