The Minnesota Timberwolves fell short in today’s showdown against the Sacramento Kings, losing 120-124. But in a moment of elite sportsmanship and camaraderie, Timberwolves power forward Karl-Anthony Towns gave props where props are due!

Despite dishing out 19 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists, Towns’ team who are currently the leaders in the Western Conference with an incredible record of 42 wins and 18 losses, fell to the Kings (34-25), who sit at 7th in the West. In the post-game interview, when asked what the Kings were doing to make it difficult, Karl-Anthony Towns stated, “I think when the game gets close, they test our discipline, and we haven’t been able to show them the mettle that’s needed.

In a nail-biting overtime battle, the Sacramento Kings came out victorious. Despite leading midway through OT, the Wolves their dreams came crashing down with Malik Monk’s clutch shooting. The Kings’ sharpshooter bagged two back-to-back 3-pointers, putting the game completely out of reach for the Wolves.

Overtime Thriller

Minnesota had a chance to force a tie with under 18 seconds remaining, but Wolves’ Naz Reid missed a three. Trey Lyles then secured the dub for Sacramento with a free throw. Domantas Sabonis, despite fouling out in OT, dished out 21 points, 15 rebounds, and 8 assists. Keegan Murray chipped in with 17 points, while Davion Mitchell and Harrison Barnes added 16 and 14 points respectively. The Kings played without their leading man De’Aaron Fox, who was out with a left knee contusion.

Jaden McDaniels led the Timberwolves with 26 points, followed by Karl-Anthony Towns with 19 points and Naz Reid with 18 points. The Kings hustled through the game to grab 14 offensive rebounds that translated to 20 second-chance points. Anthony Edwards didn’t come back for the second half of the game citing “personal reasons”.

The game was a tight one throughout, with both teams switching leads. Monk’s 11 points in the closing minutes of the third quarter helped the Kings reach a 91-82 lead, but the Timberwolves responded with a strong start to the fourth quarter, eventually tying the score at 115-115 with 40 seconds remaining, leading to overtime. This win marked the Kings’ 2nd straight victory where they overcame an early deficit. The Wolves won their last three games but have been struggling with slow back-to-back games.

The Timberwolves will host the All-Star stacked-up LA Clippers on Sunday, while the Kings will face the Chicago Bulls at home.
