When Karl-Anthony Towns got traded to the Knicks earlier this month, it came as a shock to everyone. Even to the big man himself! Just hours before the move, KAT even worked out at the Wolves facility and was looking forward to the upcoming season. But soon after, Shams Charania broke the news via a tweet, turning the Center’s world upside down. However, the blow was softened by Wolves President Tim Connelly as Towns revealed that the executive alerted him about the trade just minutes before Charania’s tweet.
In conversation with his new teammates on The Roommates Show, KAT revealed key details about the day he got traded. “It was a hell of a Friday night, I guess. It just was a long day. I was in the facility, too. I worked out, everything was cool, and then, at night, everything wasn’t cool. That’s exactly mostly how it went.” He said. Surprisingly, he got to know about the trade just “four minutes” before Shams broke the news online, “By the time the shock wore off, Shams had already tweeted.”
Sure enough, the person who alerted him was Tim Connelly. He further revealed how “I didn’t get called. They told me, Tim told me to my face, that I was traded.” Even Jalen Brunson was taken aback by KAT’s revelation and said, “Respect.” That’s because most players in the league get traded without any notice or they find out over a phone call, but Connelly went out of his way to have a physical meeting with Towns. “It was gangster,” KAT remarked.

About where the meeting took place, Towns said, “I was at the house… He came to my crib.” And he was appreciative of Connelly for putting in the effort to do it face-to-face, “It’s a tough situation regardless of what would’ve happened, but the fact that it happened that way, I got to give him respect. Cuz it was me, three of my closest friends, and my pop. Shoutout to him, he came to our house by himself with five dudes there who could have just started spazzing out and crashed out. I gotta give him respect for that, for sure.” However, the shocking trade did put an end to KAT’s big dream.
Karl-Anthony Towns wanted to play in Minnesota for life but hopes to achieve ‘Something Special’ in New York
If it was up to Towns, he would still be suiting up for the Wolves. During the podcast, he revealed, “I thought I was gonna retire there. I thought it was gonna be the place I called home for my whole career and then after.” Obviously, giving nine years of his career to the city and even leading them to the West Finals last year, KAT had developed a special bond with his former franchise. But the Wolves had different plans. “My former employer did not agree with that ideology I had,” KAT expressed.
Although his initial wish of being a Wolves player for life did not come true, he is now focused on what’s ahead, “It is what it is. I’m here now, with my two guys here, and hoping that we can do something special for the city.” Fortunately, KAT was traded to a team that is being considered a title contender this year. Well, the Knicks already had a solid roster led by Jalen Brunson, and now the addition of Towns only makes them a more lethal team. Moreover, KAT has been extremely impressive in the preseason so far as he has averaged 18.25 points in four appearances. Hopefully, he will continue this form in the regular season and help the Knicks reach the mountaintop. Thoughts?
