Anthony Edwards' big day—Is he the future face of the NBA?

Happy Birthday Anthony Edwards! Yup, the alpha of the Timberwolves turned 23. With his flashy style, energetic personality, and confidence that’s bigger than his 6’4 frame, Edwards has become a favorite in the basketball community. There is no doubt that the Ant-Man has established himself, arguably, as one of the best shooting guards in the NBA. But right now, the star guard is busy scorching his opponents at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

But that didn’t stop his best bud and Minnesota teammate, Karl-Anthony Towns, from wishing him on his special day. Taking to Instagram, Towns posted a picture of them, with their backs turned to the camera, No. 5 and No. 32 clearly visible, just soaking in the electric atmosphere of the crowd. “Happy bday to brodie @theanthonyedwards_,” he wrote.

Was it just KAT who had a special message for the ANT, though? Nope! His Team USA teammate and Indiana star, Tyrese Haliburton, also shared birthday wishes on his IG story. And it seems like Haliburton considers Edwards in a special light. “Happy birthday nephew @theanthonyedwards_,” he captioned quite a hilarious photo of the pair, if we are being honest.

The youngest players on the veteran-stacked elite Team USA, it’s natural that Tyrese and Anthony would have a close relationship. The two were also part of the 2023 FIBA World Cup, leading their country to a 5-3 record. Haliburton, at the event, averaged a team-high 5.6 assists, but couldn’t bring it full circle, as the United States finished fourth.

However, both Anthony Edwards and Tyrese Haliburton had made their case. The fact that they were chosen to represent the USA in a roster led by top names like LeBron James, Kevin Durant, etc. speaks volumes about their impact. But then again, ANT is in a league of his own.

Anthony Edwards – the soul of Team USA

A bit far-fetched, do you think? No one would contest that the young guard is the heart and soul of the Wolves. The swag, without being arrogant, the dynamic personality, and the way he ignites the crowd to a roaring chorus of cheers and exuberance is something not many can do. Yet, that’s what happens when Anthony Edwards takes the floor.

Don’t believe us? How about a certified Olympian? “He had fun tonight, he ignited the whole crowd, he ignited the team,” Kevin Durant, Edwards’ idol, said of the 2x All-Star after he went off for 26 points against Puerto Rico. The ex-Georgia product leads the team in scoring, averaging 16.7 points per game.

When the 3x Olympic gold medalist was asked if he saw any similarities in their game, KD showered the highest praise on Edwards. “He approaches the game almost the same way mentally, wanting to be the best he can be every day … [But] Nah, I can’t teach somebody that good anything. He picks up stuff so quickly, he’s a natural.”

Well, that was the ‘Slim Reaper’ on Anthony Edwards. Now, how about LeBron James, the ‘Chosen One’ himself? The all-time scorer, for his part, was in awe of both Haliburton and ANT. “For me, Steph, KD [Kevin Durant], AD [Anthony Davis], for us to be on a team with Ant and Tyrese is just super cool that we can not only show by example, but also just be around them,” the 4x champion said.

Well, thoughts?
