Warriors backing Kamala Harris—Does this make you more supportive of the team or less?

The Warriors have been sure about their stance right from the beginning! Notably, the first instance of the Bay Area franchise taking a side was when they refused to visit the White House during Donald Trump’s term. Stephen Curry publicly expressed his wish not to go to the President’s house after winning the 2017 & 2018 NBA Championships. But they visited the Executive Mansion in 2015 and 2022 when the Democratic party took office. Now that the country is at the cusp of the Presidential elections again, let’s look at Golden State’s connection with candidate Kamala Harris.

Before going into the details, Harris already has a solid tie with the Bay Area. After completing her law degree at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, she served as the Deputy District Attorney for almost a decade, gaining a reputation for her toughness. She then worked her way up to become the attorney general of California, the first woman and the first person of color to serve that post.

With her constant work at the House of Law, Kamala Harris not only won the hearts of the Bay Area community but also the Warriors. Let’s take a look at 3 instances where Golden State’s hoopers endorsed the 59-year-old.

Draymond Green’s personal childhood memory of Kamala Harris: “I started Boohoo crying”

The former DPOY is known for speaking his mind without hesitation. Draymond Green even has his podcast where the veteran regularly addresses his fans with brutally honest takes. And, of course, at times, DrayMagic refuses to mince his words and hits the headlines. While Green kept his takes only within the NBA, he recently picked up the mic and broadened his horizon, to speak about the upcoming US Presidential election. As clarified earlier, the Bay Area side has always been clear in its stance.

The star wore a shirt with former POTUS Barack Obama’s image printed on it. He straight up endorsed Kamala Harris, saying, “We uplifting here. I wanna send my love, my support to Kamala and her team, whoever she decides that she wants her VP to be. Good luck to them.”

Moreover, the 4x NBA Champion also had an emotional backstory behind his earnest wish to witness a woman president. In the same podcast, Green said, “I remember sitting in the office with my dad and I was looking in the magazine and I asked my dad and I said ‘Do you ever think we’ll have a woman President?’”

The star’s father sunk his heart, saying, “Not in my lifetime.” And, that’s when it hit the star, as he continued, “I started Boohoo crying in that office because that was the first time I had processed like damn, my dad gonna die at some point. When he said that, it crushed me.” So, Draymond Green hopes to fulfill his wish to witness the first woman US President.

Steve Kerr and his viral “Night Night” celebration, borrowed from Warriors legend Steph Curry

On Day 1 of the 2024 Democratic National Convention, the Warriors’ mastermind stole the show with his rousing speech, advocating his support for Kamala Harris. The 9x NBA Champ brought in all the basketball references that he could to make his point.

He came up with a stimulating parallel, saying, “Think about what our team achieved with 12 Americans in Paris putting aside rivalries to represent our country. Now imagine what we could do with all 330 million of us playing on the same team.”

However, one particular basketball reference left the entire crowd in haywire. This time, Kerr resorted to his very own star, Stephen Curry. He said, “After the results are tallied that night, we can, in the words of the great Steph Curry, we can tell Donald Trump, Night, Night!”

It’s certainly a grand way to celebrate a win, just like the Bay Area superstar. Nevertheless, this isn’t the first time when Steve Kerr stood alongside Kamala Harris. A few months ago, the NBA mastermind got on a call with students alongside the Presidential candidate and created awareness regarding firearm violence and also about the upcoming election.

Stephen Curry intends to “bring that unity back” with Kamala Harris

Last but not least, the Baby-faced Assassin himself. After a series of public support to the Democrats, Stephen Curry made his appearance on the Day of the DNC via a video message. The superstar went straight into his business and advocated for Kamala Harris, saying, “That unity on and off the court reminded us all that together, we can do all things and continue to inspire the world. That’s why I believe that Kamala as president could bring that unity back and continue to move our country forward.”

Notably, Steph’s words aligned with LeBron James’ vision which he shared at the Paris Olympics. On the other hand, Steph Curry advocated Harris way before the DNC. Sitting alongside Kevin Durant at the Paris Olympics press conference, he said, “Very interesting time for our country, for sure. The fact that President Biden gave that endorsement, Vice President Harris, is trying to bring her energy to this campaign. And hopefully, if she’s on the ticket winning the election, it’s a big deal, to say the least.”
