Can Kai Cenat's reliance on LeBron and Edwards lead to a breakthrough in his basketball career?

“Standing at an enormous 5’4’’ inches, he’s the head honcho of the New York Sky. Kai Cenat.” With this announcement, Kai Cenat officially made his debut in a ‘professional’ basketball league. The same, however, turned out to be a fictional league of his own creation, with the 22-year-old streamer playing alongside and against a group of children! After a ‘disappointing’ performance during his ‘first game’, the ‘player’ was asked during a presser about possible next steps. This led him to reveal his game plan, which included LeBron James and Anthony Edwards. Now that he has won the league, he has made a major announcement.

The official Instagram account of Overtime recently highlighted that Kai Cenat has now officially retired from basketball! Having given it all to the sport over the course of the last week, the 22-year-old will now return to the thing that gave him a taste of early fame: Streaming. The now former ‘player’ was humorously honored for his days’ worth of contribution to the basketball court, with his jersey being retired and now hanging from the rafters of the arena. If MrBeast ever needs tips on how to create a perfect NBA experience, then he certainly knows who to approach now.

Known for his comedic live streams and videos, Kai Cenat has also shown his love for basketball from time to time, which eventually led to him creating this parody stream. He even watched clips of LeBron and Ant-Man after the first-game disappointment. After losing, he stated, “I’m bout to go watch LeBron highlights. I’m about to go watch Anthony Edwards highlights. I’m bout to look up a tutorial on how to play basketball on YouTube and lock in. And how to be more aggressive on the offensive end.”

This remark might have been a dig at what LeBron James himself once admitted to doing. During a segment of his ‘Mind the Game’ podcast, co-hosted by now Lakers head coach JJ Redick, the NBA All-Time top scorer made the revelation of watching his own highlights to gain a confidence boost. While initially feeling shy of just watching himself on the court, the player adopted a mentality that has now allowed him to state “We all watch our own highlights on YouTube.” With Cenat’s highlights only showing him goofing around and igniting a dose of laughter from his viewers, he had to turn to others to gain basketball inspiration.

Kai Cenat has now brought his ‘fulfilling’ sports career to an end. It is safe to say that he will be remembered. However, if there is one thing that will console hearts, it is that LeBron James is not set to go anywhere for now, and is set to serve as lead scorer for his team during the 2024-25 season. It’s a good thing that Cenat didn’t play long enough to gain a spot in the NBA itself. After all, LeBron might still remember how the streamer’s platform helped to deliver the ultimate roast onto him.

Kevin Hart once used Kai Cenat’s livestream to roast LeBron James in front of 700,000 fans: “I’m asking what time he’s playing”

Back in June, Kai Cenat played host to renowned comedian Kevin Hart on one of his streams. During the same, Hart surprised everyone by facetiming LeBron James right then and there! Given that the stream was taking place a month after the Lakers were eliminated from playoffs, some people would have been careful referencing the tournament to the player. However, Kevin Hart is not ‘some people.’

Therefore, he jokingly roasted LeBron by telling Cenat and his co-host, “Be quiet, I’m asking what time he’s playing”. With reportedly over 650,000-700,000 fans watching, LeBron fortunately took the dig as a joke, and replied back “They haven’t sent me the schedule yet.”

The stream soon ended up breaking viewership records. LeBron couldn’t have said anything to Hart, as him and the comedian go back a long way. If he wanted, however, he could have sought a ‘revenge’ on Cenat himself. Nothing of that sort originated when the streamer visited LeBron during one of the latter’s training sessions at the Paris Olympics. With the way that Cenat initially wrote “Uh Oh” on X, however, he might have raised some heartbeats.

With the LBA concluded, the focus of basketball fans will now turn towards the NBA. Hopefully, we will get some more jokes from Kai Cenat during the main games as he returns to the streaming platforms.
