No. 34, Giannis Antetokounmpo, celebrates a milestone today as he turns 30. The Milwaukee Bucks superstar is in Boston, gearing up to face the Celtics on Friday night. While Giannis is listed as probable for the game, the day is undoubtedly filled with birthday wishes pouring in from friends, family, and fans alike for the ‘Greek Freak’. Among the flood of heartfelt messages, one wish stands out—a special shoutout from his former teammate, Jrue Holiday, making the occasion even more memorable.

Holiday and Antetokounmpo share not only good chemistry on the court but their relationship extends off the court as well. When a reporter asked Jrue if he has had a chance to wish Giannis or not Jrue said, “Oh is it, I have to tell him when I see him, he’s getting old” and shared a laugh with the reporters after stating he will wish him when the two meet before the tip-off and also stated that the Bucks star was getting into the veteran category of the league.

The Boston Celtics point guard will not only be suiting up to play against his former teammate and friend but also against his old team, the Bucks. Holiday was in Milwaukee from the 2020-21 season through the 2022-23 season before being traded to his current team. Additionally, He and Giannis were part of the Milwaukee squad which won the championship in 2021.

Jrue Holiday recently shared some amusing and insightful information about his former Milwaukee teammate Giannis Antetokounmpo on Podcast P hosted by Paul George. Stating despite earning over $283 million in paychecks and with more money on the way, thanks to his $175 million contract Giannis lives as if he’s still on a tight budget.

Jrue said, “He’s the cheapest guy I know. He’s got all that money, but again, I think it’s just because of where he started. He really didn’t have any money, and now he’s still living like he doesn’t have any money. You can’t change that.”  He credited his humble beginnings in Greece for shaping his lifestyle.

Giannis was born to Nigerian immigrants in Athens, he grew up selling trinkets on the streets to help his family make ends meet. So, it is only obvious that despite attaining massive wealth he hasn’t left his thrifty habits completely behind in life. Furthermore, his meteoric rise is stuff straight out of fairy tales, but his modest lifestyle is a good indicator of how deeply his values are rooted in him.
