For some people, not too many eventful events can happen within the span of two months. However, Boston Celtics star Jrue Holiday does not belong in that category! It was only back in June when the player won his second NBA Finals. While the event would have gone down as the highlight of his year, the player overshadowed that achievement by defeating France during the 2024 Paris Olympics and winning the Gold Medal yesterday! After having added two crucial titles to his legacy, the player feels that he can consider himself to be on a similar level as his star wife.
In the aftermath of the USA-France Finals game, Jrue Holiday engaged in a Q&A session with several members of the media. When asked about what this win would win for him and his family, the 34-year-old simply stated “One, I guess it means I can sit at the table with my wife. That’d be cool.” Holiday putting the Olympics in his front view is certainly something that his other half, former footballer Lauren Holiday, will understand.
After all, she herself had a busy run when competing for Gold at the 2008 Beijing and 2012 London Olympics. It took 12 years for the NBA player to reach the same level as his other half, having already secured one medal previously at the 2020 Tokyo Games. With four Gold Medals in the family now, Jrue Holiday was proud to state that “my Kids kind of have bragging rights.”

Alongside Jayson Tatum and Derrick White, Holiday has made history by becoming the first trio of players to win an Olympic Gold Medal and an NBA championship in the same year. The 2x NBA All-Star’s achievement certainly played a significant role in both instances. After all, he averaged 7.6 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 3.6 assists to help Team USA maintain a perfect 5-0 streak in his five appearances. Throughout his tough run, he appreciated having the support of Lauren.
“It’s just an honor and a blessing, I think, to be able to, I mean, a group of people to be able to compete at different times. I was there for her in 2012 to watch her compete, and then her being here for this one, it’s been awesome to get to share it with my family.” For both Jrue and Lauren, the experience of competing on this prestigious international stage was quite lovable.
During her own Gold Medal runs in 2008 and 2012, Lauren Holiday was a key member in USWNT’s success. Including her two stints and her time at the 2015 Women’s World Cup, the former athlete had donned the jersey on 133 different occasions and made 24 goals. Therefore, if Jrue Holiday wanted to sit on the ‘same table’ as his wife, he didn’t just have to win on the basis of his other teammates, but efficiently contribute too. The player may have been confident enough to do so, since part of his competitive nature comes from her itself.

Before the Olympic Gold Medal or even the Larry O’Brien trophy was close to being achieved by Jrue Holiday, the Boston Celtics star sat down for an interview with the ‘View with the Rafters’ podcast. During the same, the interviewers wanted to know more about the soccer legend, and how the husband-wife competitive level matched. Having witnessed it himself and heard what others have had to say about this issue, Holiday had to give the title of ‘most competitive’ to Lauren.
“I’ve always heard, pound-for-pound, it was my wife,” said Holiday. “We train together, we had some of the same trainers, we pretty much do everything together. A lot of it would be like pound-for-pound her. I’d probably agree.”

Bringing another Gold Medal home can mean two things for Jrue Holiday. Either his wife will concede that their competitiveness is at an equal footing, or she will just up her level. From what the NBA player has described, the latter seems to be the most probable scenario.
