Well, the Knicks surely expected a tough fight as they headed to TD Garden for their season opener against the reigning Champions. But even they could not have imagined the brutality they would suffer at the hands of the Celtics tonight. Putting on a shooting clinic with 29 made threes, Jayson Tatum and Co. tied the record for most threes by a team in a single game. And after the Knicks got blown out, a shell-shocked Josh Hart has hilariously urged Adam Silver to take action against the Cs!
Addressing the Celtics’ historic performance, Hart jokingly said, “The NBA needs to drug test them dudes. I ain’t ever seen anything like that,” via James L. Edwards III of The Athletic. With the way the home team was shooting, you cannot blame Josh for thinking like that! The game looked as good as over when the C’s scored 43 points in the opening quarter, finishing the half with 17 threes.

As expected, they carried that momentum to the second half and scored 12 more threes, tying the record that the Bucks set four years ago. Moreover, it was a highly efficient performance as the team in green achieved the feat in only 61 shot attempts. This also included the thirteen straight shots they missed before finishing the game after they had already tied the record.

Meanwhile, the Knicks struggled to put the ball through the net as they went 11 of 30 from deep range. And Josh Hart missed both his shot attempts from beyond the arc. Even superstars Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns, who are usually on top of their game, struggled to find their shooting stroke. Surprisingly, Miles McBride was the only efficient shooter on their squad tonight as he drained four of his five long-range attempts. So, it is understandable why Hart was taken aback by his opponent’s performance.
Will the NBA follow through on Josh Hart’s ‘drug test’ request?
Although Hart said it jokingly, the league has drug-tested players in the past when they see them do something out of the ordinary. Earlier this summer, Tyrese Maxey got drug tested after he appeared more bulked up and muscular than last season. And the Philly star blamed the fans for jokingly accusing him of juicing up after seeing his transformed physique, which might have led to the drug test, “I really got d**g tested because of y’all.”

Did the Celtics' shooting spree expose the Knicks' glaring defensive weaknesses?
Have an interesting take?
Meanwhile, Alex Caruso and other stars have also gone through something similar in the past after their transformed physique caught everyone’s attention. Moreover, Danny Green was once drug-tested because he threw down an insane put-back dunk during a game. Known as a prolific shooter his entire career, the league was taken aback by his rare feat of athleticism.
Obviously, all these hoopers passed the test. But it is unlikely that the Celtics will be drug tested despite Josh Hart’s request because shooting volume threes is a regular occurrence in the modern NBA. It just happened that everyone on the Celtics had a great night and most of their shots were falling. And since it is just a skill-based accomplishment, a drug test might not be necessary.
