Did Malika Andrews just set the gold standard for live TV professionalism during that earthquake?

As they say, anything can happen on Live TV. With the entire nation celebrating Team USA’s gold medal win at the Paris Olympics, ESPN was following their usual Monday afternoon routine of discussing the historic hoops achievement on NBA Today. But mid-way through the show, their Los Angeles studio was struck by a 4.4 magnitude earthquake. However, host Malika Andrews displayed her veteran experience by handling the whole incident with the utmost calmness, even garnering appreciation from Knicks star Josh Hart and the entire community!

While Andrews was conducting a video interview with WNBA legend and analyst Rebecca Lobo, the segment was interrupted by a sudden earthquake, and the ESPN vet quickly paused the conversation, saying, “As we have a bit of an earthquake here in Los Angeles. So, we are gonna make sure our studio lights and everything stays safe. Everything is shaking.” Then she checked on her entire crew and made sure that things were back to normal before resuming the interview like nothing had ever happened!

It is moments like these that people’s fight-or-flight response kicks in, and Andrews shows that she is a fighter. After finishing the segment, the 29-year-old addressed the incident, “Thanks to our amazing crew, who stayed cool, calm, and collected even when things got literally shaky. Hope everyone in LA is staying safe!”

Soon after the initial jolt, it was reported that the earthquake’s epicenter was located somewhere near South Pasadena. Moreover, there were two smaller earthquakes before the one that shook the ESPN studio of 1.7 and 1.3 magnitude, respectively.

Malika Andrews deemed GOAT after standing strong during earthquake tremors

Impressed by Malika’s quick thinking and calmness on Live TV, the NBA world sang praises of the media veteran on social media. Having shared the screen with her on ESPN during the NBA Finals broadcast earlier this year, Josh Hart tagged Malika on X and attached a GOAT emoji to her name. One fan suggested that she should be the one reporting every natural calamity because of how brave she was during the earthquake! “She needs to do the hurricane forecast she ain’t scared button,” the individual wrote.
