The Warriors’ 105-113 loss to the Suns on Saturday night has only served to amplify the frustrations within the team. Particularly for Jonathan Kuminga. Discussing the matchup on Warriors Plus Minus, Anthony Slater and Marcus Thompson II of The Athletic, pointed out that JK’s frustrations were easily spilling over.

“Look at all these weird lineups. There’s no rhythm and flow. And then you look over at the bench and it’s very obvious how frustrated Kuminga is,” Slater stated. For one, this discontent may not solely stem from on-court struggles.

Kuminga’s unresolved contract extension talks were an aspect that fueled trade rumors. Reports suggest a significant gap between the 22-year-old and Dubs contract negotiations, with the former looking closer to $35 million while the latter is offering up to $30 million.

With both parties not getting anywhere close to a mutual ground, there is a chance that the Golden State may finally look for trade options for the former 7th overall pick. However, it seems that it wasn’t just Jonathan Kuminga who was affected.

Moses Moody, known for his usually quiet demeanor, although less outwardly, seemed affected as well. “Moody is like the least outwardly frustrated guy. He plays 2 to 3 minutes a night, and he’s kinda like pretty sullen,” the NBA Insider noted. But as of now, it’s the young Congolese guard’s future with the Warriors that seems to be on rocky ground.

Adding to the speculation is GSW’s reported interest in the Bulls’ center, Nikola Vučević.

Chicago is seeking a package that aligns well with the Dubs, especially if they involve the 2022 champ in trade talks. “The Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors have expressed interest in Bulls center Nikola Vucevic, league sources say. I’ve heard the Bulls are reportedly seeking a package that includes multiple second-round draft picks and a promising young player in exchange for Vucevic,” as per NBA reporter, Robert Peterson.

It doesn’t help that Coach Kerr has also openly admitted the challenge of balancing rotations, particularly when JK’s role overlaps with Andrew Wiggins. “I’ve got to get him out there for longer, but these are really difficult decisions. Because it’s not just as simple as how many minutes a guy plays. It’s who’s playing, what’s the combination, what’s happening in the game,” Kerr had admitted to Kendra Andrews in early January.

However, the Warriors’ interest in Nikola Vučević signals their intent to address a glaring weakness in their roster – rebounding and size. And the Montenegrin veteran could fill that crucial post. So, again, the Bulls’ asking price and Jonathan Kuminga‘s status as a high-upside prospect makes him a logical trade chip. Plus, the franchise’s aim of maximizing Steph Curry’s championship window also complicates The Patrick School alum’s future in the Bay Area.

As the Warriors juggle internal frustrations, trade negotiations, and long-term roster planning, the spotlight remains on Jonathan Kuminga. Will he secure a more defined role and thrive in the Golden State? Or will his development continue elsewhere?
