Just to put things into perspective, Cooper Flagg is so much more advanced that he reclassified himself. That’s exactly how ahead of the curve Jonathan Kuminga was. Coming out of high school, the now-rising Warriors forward had every scout and college looking in awe. But even with the top programs extending scholarships, Kuminga went down an unconventional path.
He decided to join the NBA’s G-League after his dominant three-year high school run. A year later, the Bay picked him with the 7th pick and since then the 22-year-old looks destined for big things. Although uncertainty does loom over his future. Despite being among the top rookies, he’s reached a contract stallmate with the Warriors.
While the likes of Cade Cunningham and Evan Mobley have exorbitant extensions on their hands, Kuminga is slated to become a restricted free agent next season. Essentially, this is the year for him to deliver on his promise and sway the Warriors to offer him a contract exceeding $220 million.

But until that decision is taken, let’s take a lot at his earnings so far.
How long is Jonathan Kuminga’s contract with the Warriors? When does he become a free agent?
Kuminga set his sights on becoming a basketball behemoth very young. At just 13, he moved from Congo to the USA to begin his conquests. In three years of high school, his atomic athleticism and explosiveness set him a class apart from most. And in his debut season with the G-League Ignite, those strengths only grew.
He averaged 15.8 points and 7.2 rebounds per game for the G-League side. Naturally, it compelled the Warriors to look at him with great interest. After drafting him 8th overall, the Bay didn’t waste any time, offering him a five-year $24 million extension. Now in his final season, the slashing forward will earn $7.6 million.

The four-year deal earns him an average of $6,213,837, with the entire $24 million being guaranteed. However, as you know, the time has indeed run out for an extension. After this season, Kuminga will officially hold the ability to switch teams. But he is a restricted free agent meaning the Bay will have the choice to match any offers if they wish to keep Kuminga as a part of their roster.

Is Kuminga the future anchor for the Warriors, or just another promising talent yet to deliver?

Will Kuminga sign an extension with the Warriors? How much did the Warriors offer?
For a fourth-year forward, it’s an underwhelming sum. But within the Warriors, players see his infinite potential. Draymond Green vouched for the youngster to not be traded during the trade deadline with the possibility of him becoming an anchor for the future. Moreover, Jimmy Butler, who just joined the team, has taken a liking to Kuminga.
And he has admitted to giving out his secrets to “help them get some dollars in the future”. Missing 31 straight games due to an injury may not have helped his contract case. However, Kuminga’s significant improvement, especially shooting the triple and his ability to penetrate defenses, is an invaluable skill for the Warriors.
Over the past offseason, the Warriors did open up talks about an extension. The two parties got nowhere close to an acceptable sum. Notably, Kuminga demanded an average salary of $35 million while the franchise didn’t want to offer over $30 million. Those talks led to the 22-year-old banking on having a sensational last season on his current contract to hopefully prove his worth in the NBA.
So far, 16.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game, all of which are career-highs. However, it’s vital to note that his numbers have severely dipped as the electric forward returned from a severe ankle sprain only a few games ago.
What are Jonathan Kuminga’s endorsements?
Some big companies connected with Kuminag the moment he entered the NBA. Notably, as a star rookie, the biggest athletic brand didn’t waste any time to sign him. Nike roped the rookie in for a sneaker deal, which is still going strong. He also has a deal with NBA 2K. However, that’s not all.
JK has also partnered with brands such as Zen Water, an alkaline water brand that helps in his recovery. Other NBA stars such as James Harden has also been spotted using their product. Staying on the lines of energy, in 2024, Kuminga teamed up with Drink Accelerator, a high-performance drink that helps athletes like him to prolong their peak performance.
Kuminga can be seen endorsing these products on his Instagram. Likewise, with money coming in from various sources, the dazzling forward is also a willing spender. Fashion is among the key areas. Jonathan Kuminga boasts simplicity during his pregame fits. However, he looks at clothing as a way of making a statement.
