Finally! A day for the Dub Nation to rejoice! The Golden State Warriors pinned down the Phoenix Suns 109-105 in an important win. But, Saturday was not exclusively about Stephen Curry and Draymond Green. Although both stars returned to the court after their rest phase vs. the Clippers on Friday. It was more about Jonathan Kuminga and the show he put up for the hopeful crowd in Chase Center on December 28.
Steve Kerr left the arena a happy man, but not as happy as his 22-year-old forward, Jonathan Kuminga. Back-to-back games of career-high 34 points had Kuminga shining, yet nerves kicked in during the Suns game when the Warriors trailed by nine with six minutes left. Kuminga and Dennis Schroder’s clutch 20-point effort turned it around, with JK sealing the deal by sinking two ice-cold free throws to take the lead. Asked post-game how it felt, Kuminga smiled as reporters questioned, “How big did those free throws feel down the stretch?”
“I felt great… uh, I miss a couple you know. I was nervous a little bit, but I ain’t going to lie,” Jonathan Kuminga responded with honesty. “Had never been in that situation where I got to go through the free throws and everybody was quiet. And I got to make those free throws and I’m glad and lucky I made those two so…”

The Dubs relied on Kuminga’s heroics after losing to the LA Clippers and going 15-15 on Friday. Besides, JK wasn’t even in the starting lineup on Saturday. He came off the bench, wrecked Phoenix‘s defense, and delivered a night to remember. Meanwhile, Stephen Curry chipped in 22 points, and both Trayce Jackson-Davis and Draymond Green added 16 points.
Speaking of Dray, did you know, he has been a huge impact on Kuminga and his career so far?

Draymond Green has always been a fan of his 22-year-old teammate, Jonathan Kuminga. And he’s always hoped that the star gets his moments to shine more often. After JK’s stellar 34-point game, Green was full of praise for the Congolese forward during the post-game press conference at Chase Center. The 2017 Defensive Player of the Year described JK as “one of the most talented guys on this team, by far.” Impressed as he was, Green couldn’t help but throw in a challenge for Kuminga: “We just need him to stay that aggressive.” For DrayMagic, greatness is just the starting line.
At the same time, Jonathan Kuminga also opened up about his relationship with his 34-year-old veteran teammate. The reporters asked him: “Draymond has been one of your strongest advocates since Day 1. How could you describe him as your mentor?” Kuminga responded: “It’s a lot to say about what the Draymond has been. In my life, you know, he had helped me a lot on and off the court.”
He added: “And it’s been, it’s been for me throughout my career, my four years, I’ve been here. So you know, I really appreciate the little tips and things he tells me and helps me here and there. You know he just keeps helping me to become the person I want to be.” Draymond was extremely impressed with Jonathan Kuminga’s improvement and efforts.

Jonathan Kuminga’s rare aggression is shining, with back-to-back games averaging 13 free-throw attempts. Against Phoenix, he drew a clutch foul from Durant and nailed the go-ahead free throws. This is what Green wants—JK attacking the rim, stacking easy points, causing foul trouble, and opening up the floor. In the Warriors’ comeback game, Kuminga outshined everyone even in his ‘nervous’ moments, thus collecting praises and adding to his records.
