The Boston Celtics were handed their Championship rings yesterday and there were festivities all around, as the C’s one-upped the Lakers, by raising their 18th title banner to the rafters of TD Garden. Everyone had their candid and picture-perfect reactions to receiving the luxury ring, as Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown were awe-struck. But not everyone seemed to be on the same page.
When Joe Mazzulla was asked about the ring, he answered, “When I got the ring, um, I don’t know why it’s so big and I’m never going to wear it. But it’s cool to have was kind of what I thought,” stating a more practical reasoning, adding the piece to his jewelry box. The mastermind, however, surprised everyone when he kissed the floor of the C’s home arena. After winning many hearts with his gesture, he simply termed it as a way to express his gratitude. JM explained, “The parquet, that’s where the blood, sweat, and tears of the greats (have been). So I don’t get to go out there and dive on the floor for loose balls,” he said. “I’d love to or do any of that.”
Joe Mazzulla on what the parquet floor tasted like:
“Blood. Or I wish it did.”
As for what went through his mind after getting his ring:

Well, the Celtics HC was not the only one who felt that the ring was huge. Other players, such as Derrick White and Al Horford, also shared similar thoughts. Derrick White expressed, “I don’t think so (responding to the question of could the rings be any bigger) unbelievable,” implying that he was on the same page as his HC but still he went on to give a shoutout to everyone who took part in the designing the piece and Jason of Beverly Hills, who made the ring.

Big Al was also spotted saying, “It’s massive, it is ridiculous… I don’t think they can even call it a ring,” he went on to add, “They got the measurements all wrong. It’s like way too big.” The veteran center thought that there was some mistake in the ring’s sizing. With all of this talk about the ring being massive, let’s take a closer look at why that is.
Why is the Celtics Championship ring so massive?
The Celtics’ 18th Championship ring is a piece of art. The creator of the piece is Jason of Beverly Hills, a new-age jeweler, who also designed the 2020 Lakers ring, which featured a tribute to the mighty Kobe Bryant. So, everything that went into making this ring for the C’s has some sort of story behind it, for example, the features- 15 carats of white diamonds were used, which represents 15 teams of the Eastern Conference. This, however, is only a very small example of the symbolism the ring contains.

Is the Celtics' championship ring a masterpiece or a monstrosity? What's your take?
Have an interesting take?
It contains the name of each player on one side panel and the NBA trophy with their combined season record engraved on the other side panel. Other things worth noting are the banner years circling the ring’s perimeter. The team’s mantra ‘Whatever it Takes’ is engraved on the side. A detail that most likely added to the ring’s massive size is the removable top. Within that, there is a piece of the home parquet floor with the final score written on it and the bottom part features the championship banner with the jersey number of each player.
When look at the ring closely, you understand why it is so big. The attention to detail in the piece is unmatchable and adding these many details will take up space. The cost of such special mementos can be anywhere between $30,000 to $150,000, a figure that is fully covered by the NBA, and not the franchise! Quite spectacular, isn’t it?
