“When you have few chances in life, you just got to take the bull by the horns and you got to just own it” said Joe Mazzulla in the aftermath of the Boston Celtics’ 2024 championship win. Through his remark, the head coach gave a glimpse into the mindset that has allowed him to become one of the most recognized individuals in the modern NBA. By shifting from assistant coach and interim head coach to a head coach with his own Larry O’Brien trophy, all in the span of 5 years, Mazzulla’s work with the Boston Celtics has made him as famous as the players themselves.
However, fame isn’t the only reward the HC got for his years of dedication. After all, he has also accumulated a net worth that could benefit the next generation of Mazzullas. This makes one curious about the decorated head coach’s overall earnings. So, without any further ado, let us get right into it!

According to reports, the Boston Celtics head coach commands an impressive $5 million net worth. Joe Mazzulla’s accumulated earnings do not place him anywhere near the Top 10 list of NBA coaches. However, since he signed his existing HC contract only last year, the organization may not have adjusted the amount he received to his reported net worth.
How much does Joe Mazzula get paid by the Boston Celtics? Earnings from his coaching career revealed
In May 2023, three months after Joe Mazzulla was officially named the 19 head coach of the Boston Celtics, Shams Charania revealed that Mazzulla had $14 million remaining to be paid over the next 3 years. This makes his per season pay around $4.6 million-$4.7 million. Compared to other coaches’ annual pay, Mazzulla ranks in the 19 spot. He is placed right behind Chicago Bulls head coach Billy Donovan ($6 million) and Utah Jazz head coach Will Hardy ($4 million). The latter has his ranking tied with Toronto Raptors HC Darko Rajaković ($4 million).
According to Salary Swish, the 36-year-old made $2.5 million annually before becoming head coach. Mazzulla’s salary jump isn’t as high as some NBA players receive. However, someone who has only been in the NBA for 5 years has contributed significantly and climbed the ranks on his merit.

Before the future Larry O’Brien trophy holder could establish his coaching career, he had a go as a player. At Bishop Hendricken High School, Mazzulla became known for making the all-state-first team. He eventually enrolled in West Virginia despite receiving a scholarship offer from Boston College. Along with a couple of on-court issues, the player also created some problems for himself in his personal life. The future championship coach decided to get straight when he got a call from the late Jerry West.
During his five years at West Virigina, Mazzulla averaged 4.7 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists.

The team offered Joe Mazzulla his first coaching job right out of college. However, he declined the offer from Nova Southeastern to focus more on a career as a player. After failing to find professional playing opportunities, he joined Glenville State as an assistant coach. He stayed there for 2 years before joining Fairmont State for 3 years. After a single-season tenure at Maine Red Claws, the Celtics’ G-League Affiliate, Mazzulla returned to Fairmont. This time, however, they appointed him the head coach!
During his 2 seasons as HC at Fairmont, Mazzulla went 43-17. The Falcons managed to earn an at-large berth to the 2019 NCAA Division II Tournament but eventually fell to Mercyhurst. In June 2019, Adrian Wojnarowski revealed that Mazzulla would join the Boston Celtics. The rest, as they say, is history.
What are Joe Mazzulla’s endorsements and investments?
Several NBA coaches do not solely depend on their league salaries to improve their net worth. Steve Kerr holds a minority stake in the LaLiga side Mallorca, while Tyronn Lue revealed last year that he was investing in a five-year plan focusing on Tyronn Lue Park and the downtown square in Mexico, Missouri. Unlike his peers, however, Joe Mazzulla has not chosen to engage in any major investment or endorsement deals. Even if he has, he has not chosen to make it public knowledge.

Does Joe Mazzulla have luxury cars? Boston Celtics coach reveals his favorite ride
You cannot have the net worth of an NBA player or coach and not buy at least one luxurious car. From Shaquille O’Neal’s specially customized vehicles to Michael Jordan’s collection, which includes everything from a Cadillac and a Bugatti Veyron to a Toyota Camry NASCAR vehicle, these road jewels seldom fail to leave fans jealous. However, regarding Mazzulla, spending money on luxurious cars is not the way to go.
Back in 2022, Joe Mazzulla outright revealed that he drives………. a minivan! During a presser when he was still serving as Interim Head Coach, he revealed, “I drive a minivan that’s probably perfect, and I’m not changing it.” According to a Reddit post, Joe Mazzulla continued to ride a 1997 Suzuki Sidekick. The reason was stated that “the threat of it breaking down forces him to always be early.” Unfortunately, there is no official source that confirms this.
