Despite not winning the 2023 title, Miami Heat’s run is one for the storybooks. As an eighth seed, they knocked off the top two teams and then made it to the Finals. This was their second Finals appearance in four seasons and despite not hoarding superstars, they have performed at an elite level in postseason. One of the major reasons for that is having Erik Spoelstra, whose coaching skills are lauded across the league.
So when Spo wants you on your squad, how does that feel?

The Miami Heat Head Coach is known for getting the best out of a player. He has coached the likes of LeBron James, Jimmy Butler, Chris Bosh, and Dwyane Wade. However, he is at his best at utilizing role players like Udonis Haslem, Shane Battier, and, in a recent example, Caleb Martin. One other role player who brought his top game under him is Gabe Vincent. The recent Lakers signee sat down with former knockdown shooter JJ Redick and the sharpshooter opened up about his wonderful experience during the 2022 Playoffs.
The former Clippers Guard is providing coverage for ESPN-broadcast NBA games and was covering a Second Round game between the Philadelphia 76ers and the Miami Heat in the 2022 season. He related an incident to Vincent on his YouTube show “The Old Man & the Three”.
The Guard glowingly states, ”My second Heat game I called was the Playoffs with Dave Pasch. You guys were playing Philly in the second round last year. And at the end of the meeting, randomly Spo looks at me, he is like I think you’d fit in perfectly with the Heat. And I swear to God, it was the greatest compliment I have ever gotten as a basketball player. I was like this is fantastic.”
Considering Heat’s constant need for someone who can move without the ball and nail long-range jumpers, a prime Redick would have served the team well. Therefore, as a fit, Spo would have loved to have him. He knew how to adapt to different schemes, so Spoelstra’s desire makes a lot of sense.
The electric shooter has stayed relevant
Whether it is his argumentative approach on First Take or his social media engagement, the former 76ers Guard has built a big fanbase after his playing career. He last played in 2021 as a teammate of wunderkind Luka Doncic.

In an interesting anecdote, the Mavericks’ superb Guard once lost a card game against the analyst and owed $1700 to him. The $50 million-worth commentator took to Twitter relating this incident when Doncic signed a gigantic $207 million deal with the Mavs.
At any rate, Redick had a successful NBA career. He consistently averaged over 15 points and once led the league in three-point percentage with an impressive 47.5%.
