Is LeBron's turnover trouble a sign of decline, or just a temporary setback for the King?

Is it fair to say the Denver Nuggets own the Lakers? At this point, it feels undeniable. Nikola Jokic’s crew has dominated the Lakers in 13 of their last 14 meetings. The latest loss only adds to the frustration. What’s worse? Not a single Laker managed to crack the 20-point mark. Disappointing? Absolutely. Frustrating? You bet. However, the loss wasn’t the only shocker for Lakers fans.

LeBron James‘ turnovers hit six at the Crypto.com Arena. This surprised many as he’s been on a roll lately, scoring over 20 points in almost every game and racking up triple-doubles with ease. But turnovers are becoming a growing concern for the Lakers. The numbers keep rising, and it’s not a good sign. When asked about the issue, JJ Redick didn’t hold back. “Have you seen any causation as to what is occurring? Either within his role in the offense or the other players’ roles in the offense? Is that what’s leading to his turnovers growing over the last week or so?”

Despite the disappointing performance, JJ Redick stood by his team. When his star player, the King, faced scrutiny, Redick stepped in to defend him. That’s what head coaches do! He told reporters, “They were shocking him versus the quick blitz in some of his picking roles.”

The Denver Nuggets delivered a feisty performance; their defensive prowess was evident throughout the game. However, Redick explained, “I think some of that with tonight, sometimes high usage players can kind of go through stretches where they do have high turnover games, and you have to live with that.” He was defending James. A game or even a stretch of high turnovers doesn’t define a player’s potential. Especially not when it’s the 39-year-old legend we’re talking about!

However, at the end of the day, one fact remains undeniable: The Lakers lost to the Denver Nuggets for the thirteenth time. Therefore, the question remains, who is to be held accountable for the disappointing 102-127 loss JJ Redick’s boys faced in their home arena?

JJ Redick holds the entire Lakers accountable for the loss vs. Nuggets

The HC isn’t happy with the outcome of the game. Moreover, it’s the second consecutive loss, making things more tricky for Redick & Co. “We didn’t execute it,” the 40-year-old bluntly responded in the postgame presser. It wasn’t just the defensive end that failed to hold the likes of Nikola Jokic and Michael Porter Jr. but the offensive end was equally disappointing. LeBron James and Austin Reaves scored 18 and 19 points respectively. Meanwhile, the Lakers center Anthony Davis couldn’t go beyond 14 points.

JJ Redick further added: “Me and my staff will take some ownership of that as well. It’s not just players not executing the game plan, it’s all of us. We’re all on the same team, we all want the same outcome. We all want to be a good defensive team, so we’ve got to figure out that together.” The head coach’s words do make sense because, at the end of the day, it’s the team’s efforts that matter more than anything. And the Lakers failed to deliver their best shot on Saturday’s game night. First, the Orlando Magic crushed the Purple and Gold on Thursday and now the Nuggets carried forward the streak.

However, knowing the potential the team has, a comeback shouldn’t be too difficult. Moreover, LeBron James’ turnover woes are surely not going to be around for too long, because the King will attack again and we’ll be here to witness it.
