Is LeBron James subtly hinting at a future coaching role with his pregame attire choice?

Every player has a ritual before the game. But the first player that comes to mind when we think of a game ‘ritual’ is LeBron James. And to rightly satisfy the fans’ curiosity, the superstar recently revealed his pregame ritual, right from waking up to the iconic chalk toss. However, there is one unexplored or rather untold ritual that King James has been doing over the last few months, as per NBA Reddit, which could pose a potential threat to JJ Redick.

The Lakers hired Redick as the head coach after a long drama with former coach Darvin Ham. But, the former NBA player seems to have put an end to the drama ever since he put on the Lakers’ coaches pullover. It’s a black outfit with a small Lakers logo on the chest which every single coaching staff wears during the game. It’s more like a uniform. Nevertheless, coming back to the subject, Redick has brought calmness into the fold as he laid out a new framework for the future.

So far the Lakers ship has had a decent run in the preseason. Despite losing four games, the team showed glimpses of greatness as the depth has certainly responded to Redick’s magic. Amid this situation, a Reddit post unearthed a potential threat to the coach in the form of LeBron James‘ ritual. Here it goes. The post asked a simple question, Has LeBron ever said why he always wears a coach’s shirt, instead of the purple & gold warmups like the rest of the team?”

It seems like useless information, right? But here’s the catch. Since the last season (maybe even before), LeBron James has stopped wearing players’ warm-up clothing instead he wears a coach’s pullover.

What could be the reason behind LeBron James’ peculiar ritual?

What’s your perspective on:

Is LeBron James subtly hinting at a future coaching role with his pregame attire choice?

Have an interesting take?

Is he eyeing to take over the Lakers coaching team after his retirement? Or is taking it over during his active years? It’s a genuine doubt that can arise in a loyal Lakers fan’s mind. Or else why wouldn’t LeBron James wear the practice outfit like every other player on the roster? On some occasions, the superstar can be wearing the pullover right after clocking out.

This is where the plot thickens. The Akron Hammer even spoke about his participation in the coaching staff, as he said, “I’m going to lead by example, lead by my voice. My voice is very commanding, but I’ll be an extension of the coaching staff on the floor,” on Media Day. Moreover, he also added, “Not only is J.J.’s voice being heard, but all the other coaches’ voices are being heard. We’re all just taking it in and trying to dial in and get better out there on the floor.”

So, it’s safe to say that James at least had the idea of coaching the Lakers in his mind. Above all, James and Redick engaged in a podcast situation where they spoke about coaching decisions throughout the series. So maybe, in the future, we could see a coaching duo in the NBA. What do you think? Let us know.
