The Pacific Palisades wildfire uprooted more than just JJ Redick’s home—it left a deep emotional void, stalling his journey to recovery as he balanced personal loss with his role leading the Lakers. While LA and Inglewood are still reeling from the disaster, Redick made an emotional confession to help him overcome the tragedy after the league postponed the game against the Hornets.

After the postponement of Thursday’s challenge against the Hornets, Redick met the reporters earlier today. Speaking about the wildfire, he confessed, “I think I have a pretty strong ability to compartmentalize things,” addressing that he will still play the upcoming challenge against the Spurs.

He added, “Being here, for me, was great because it gave me something to look forward to, honestly… We obviously are gonna work with the NBA, the Spurs, the city and do what’s right. I want to play tomorrow I want to coach tomorrow. I want these guys to play tomorrow.”

Unfortunately, the league had something else in mind.

The NBA dropped a statement postponing the Lakers’ next matchup against the Spurs and the Clippers’ next against the Hornets. The statement highlighted that the league was focused on the recovery of the city, stating, “The game postponements ensure no resources will be diverted from the wildfire response efforts.”

Moreover, the league also donated $1 million as immediate relief funds to the American Red Cross, World Central Kitchen, and other organizations to help those affected and rebuild the area. Notably, JJ Redick has had a rollercoaster ride ever since he took over the coaching job. The highs and lows of the Lakers‘ performance instantly reflected on Redick’s mood at the pressers. It’s gone to an extent where the star coach looked to train the side even during the difficult times.

Redick gave live reactions to the events unfolding in LA while he was coaching the Lakers at Texas. It was when Redick revealed that the officials evacuated his wife and his family from their house. Unfortunately, the team also suffered a loss against the short-handed Mavericks.

On the other hand, Kawhi Leonard, who played just two games this season, recovering from his knee injury, pulled out of the action. Reportedly, the wildfire affected Leonard’s LA home as well. Speaking of ‘The Klaw’s absence, Clippers coach Ty Lue said, “Going back, checking on his family and kids, making sure they’re well. And he got back, and they’re doing okay, so just happy and thankful for that. We know we have a task at hand, but you know a lot of people are affected by what’s going on.”

Importantly, there’s an uncertainty regarding the next match-up. Going by the NBA schedule, after the latest postponement, the Lakers have three home games and the Clippers have two home games. So, until the league drops clarity on the schedule, we won’t find them in action until next Thursday.
