The Los Angeles Lakers find themselves in a worrying yet oddly familiar situation. With a 23-18 record after beating the Washington Wizards, they sit 6th on the table. Even so, rumors are swirling around the team that may spell disaster for Rob Pelinka and JJ Redick as the trade deadline approaches. And like all things involving the Lakers, this revolves around their star duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
Sitting at 6th, barely out of reach of the Dallas Mavericks, the Purple & Gold are looking to solidify their place in the playoffs. However, with their roster being as thin as it is, Los Angeles’ unwillingness to make any moves must drive you, as a Lakers fan, crazy. However, coach JJ Redick has defended the decisions of Rob Pelinka and the Lakers front office during this stagnant phase for the team.
Speaking to the media, he said, “I think there’s a lot of factors that go into making any trade. I think the new CBA makes it more complicated. Particularly just to do a straight-up two-team trade. And then you certainly have to factor in what our group is now and the value of keeping future assets,” he said about his team’s inactivity in the market with the February 6 trade deadline fast approaching.

And as a sudden afterthought, JJ added, “But we talk every day.” It seems Rob Pelinka and JJ Redick are playing this one slow.

LeBron James is concerned about the Lakers inability to bring in quality additions to the roster
The star duo of Anthony Davis and LeBron James have repeatedly expressed their desire to make another championship push with the franchise in the waning years of their careers. And the Lakers’ inability to make any roster upgrades has reportedly left them miffed.
LeBron James made some very telling comments after the Lakers were blown out of the water by the LA Clippers. “We don’t have room for error,” he said. “We don’t have a choice. That’s the way our team is constructed. We have to play close to perfect basketball.” James’ frustration with JJ Redick and his men is evident in his words, despite him not saying it outright.

Rumors persist about Rob Pelinka and the Lakers wanting to trade three first-round picks to bolster their squad ahead of the February 6 deadline. The players they are reportedly targeting are Walker Kessler and a reunion with their 1st pick in the 2017 Draft, Lonzo Ball. However, if they want to do something it better be quick.

Even JJ Redick seemingly agreed with LeBron before making his aforementioned comments. “It just goes back to not having a huge margin for error…,” he said after the Clippers game. A worrying situation for fans of the Purple and Gold. With the King in his 40s and Davis in his 30s, the Lakers need to give them what they want ASAP!
