Last year, LeBron James shook the basketball world by partnering with JJ Redick to start the Mind the Game podcast. Two great minds talking ball—every fan wanted to see it. Moreover, many believe the nine-episode series was Redick’s audition to become the Lakers’ head coach because only a couple of weeks after the last episode dropped, JJ bagged the job. Well, Mind the Game is back. And this time, LeBron has a new partner for the second season—Steve Nash.
Of course, Redick can no longer be part of the show because of his commitment to the head coaching job. That’s why he left the media space entirely last summer, including the ESPN analyst gig and The Old Man & The Three podcast. However, he is happy to see LeBron back at it with a new partner. Revealing his thoughts about getting replaced by LBJ, the head coach said, “Yeah, I think Steve would be great. Friend. I have known him for about 11 years and incredibly intelligent.”
He continued, “Similar to LeBron, has a real passion and love for the game and the goodness of the game. I think he’ll do a great job of expressing that and exploring that.” Well, Nash is one of the most elite point guards in history and won back-to-back MVPs during his illustrious 18-year career. That too over superstars like Shaquille O’Neal, Dirk Nowitzki, and of course LeBron James.

Moreover, Nash is a student of the game and was also the Brooklyn Nets’ head coach from 2020-23. Apart from that, he has also worked as the coaching consultant for the Warriors and the General Manager of the Canadian men’s national team. So, there are bound to be some amazing basketball discussions between him and King James. And who knows—Partnering with LeBron might land Nash a head coaching job just like it did Redick. However, LBJ wants to stay away from the rumors this time.
LeBron James wipes his hands clean off Lakers’ potential decision about Steve Nash
Just like last time, LeBron announced the new season of his podcast with an enticing one-minute trailer. “Yo, we back at it man. Mind the Game, here with Steve Nash—2-time MVP.” He said, announcing Nash as his new co-host. Surprisingly, King James also addressed last year’s rumors of Redick getting the Lakers’ job because of the podcast, as he said this about Nash’s potential future, “If he gets a head coaching job because, whatever. I had nothing – we didn’t talk about this beforehand.”

What’s your perspective on:
Could LeBron's podcast with Nash be the secret path to another coaching gig for the MVP?
Have an interesting take?
Yes, if Jeanie Buss’ $7 billion franchise ends up hiring Nash in the future, LeBron hilariously claimed that he would have no part in it. Moreover, it is unlikely that the Lakers will make the change anytime soon because Redick has done a tremendous job in his first year as head coach. Under his guidance, the team has constantly stayed among the Top 5 seeds and jumped as high as the second seed.
So, his job seems secure, at least for now. However, other teams who might be more in need of a new head coach next year would surely be tuning into Mind the Game this season assessing if Nash is the right candidate to run their team. So, even though LeBron does not want it to come off that way, his podcast could open new doors for the retired 2-time MVP. Thoughts?
