For weeks, the NBA community has been on the edge of their seats. Everyone wanted to know what the future holds for Jimmy Butler. Amidst reports of sheer disobedience by the player and his multiple suspensions, everyone kept waiting, and waiting. Now, the wait is finally over, as Shams Charania highlighted that Butler has found a new home! However, so have several others, at the very same time.
Shams recently announced that Jimmy Butler has been traded to the Golden State Warriors! The star has secured a huge payday through this effort, as his new contract is reportedly set to be a two-year, $121 million extension with the franchise through 2026-27. However, it is coming at the price of Butler declining his 2025-26 player option, a factor that there was once so much chatter about.
The trade deal has caused the Bay Area to part ways with Andrew Wiggins, Dennis Schroder, Kyle Anderson, and a protected first-round pick. However, not all of them are heading to the Pat Riley-led Miami Heat.

As part of the major multi-team agreement, Schroder will head to the Utah Jazz, and Kyle Anderson to the Toronto Raptors. The Utah Jazz is parting ways with PJ Tucker, allowing him to once again play in a Miami Heat jersey. At the same time, Charania revealed that Miami is working through a resolution with Kyle Anderson. There is no official confirmation yet on whether he will stay, or be moved.
It is still too early to speculate just how beneficial the trade deal is for the Golden State Warriors. However, the Miami Heat are already seeing some benefits from it. According to Yossi Gozlan, Jimmy Butler’s former team gets under the luxury tax through the trade, as they eliminate their $23.8 million tax penalty to create a $11 million trade exception.
Meanwhile, Stephen Curry and Co.’s financial situation depends on Butler himself. If the veteran waives his $418K trade bonus, then the Warriors can still stay $1.8M below the first apron. This leaves them with enough leisure room to add more names to their roster.
As simultaneously highlighted by Barry Jackson, the trade deal allows the Miami Heat to get the top 10 protected 1st rounder of THIS YEAR from the Bay Area. This means the Florida franchise will have 2 picks in 2025 if they miss the playoffs. If they make the playoffs, they will be granted one pick in 2025, and one in 2026. The Heat currently holds the 7th seed on the Eastern Conference chart. This means there is a very good chance for them to make the playoffs by maintaining their current pace.
A blockbuster trade deal has been a long time in the making. While everyone anticipated Jimmy Butler heading away from Miami, all the other details have come as a surprise to many. It’s only been minutes, and reactions are already pouring in from all sides.
How did Jimmy Butler and the Bay react to the Warriors-Heat trade deal?
Jimmy Butler did not waste any time in making his feelings about the trade known. Barely a few minutes after Shams dropped his report, the vet took to X, writing, “Welcome to the wild wild west” as the caption, attaching an audio file that played the same song!
After Jimmy said, “I want my joy back… I want to play with a dominant team”, it was already clear- his days with the Heat were numbered. The past few days saw him being belittled by analysts and former players, including Stephen A Smith, for insubordinate behavior that was dropping more trouble on the front office. So, they would be as relieved about the trade, as much as the player!

From the Warriors side, the news broke during a warm-up session. ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk reported that Andrew Wiggins came off the court and was dapped by an assistant coach, security, and Stephen Curry. They walked to the locker room, where other players walked up to Wiggs to shake hands with him. After that, the locker room was closed down.
This means, the Warriors squad would not be talking to the media today. Steve Kerr did not choose to discuss anything beforehand. As highlighted by Youngmisuk, the head coach just walked out of the locker room, with his head down, after the trade news became official. With their next game against the LA Lakers tomorrow, reactions from the Bay Area side will be known soon enough.
