Is Jayson Tatum's ego hurting Team USA's chances on the global stage?

As Jayson Tatum’s snub has backfired on coach Kerr, various narratives flow through the NBA community. Anti-Celtics agenda, playing favorites, embarrassing and humiliating Jayson intentionally, or whatnot. However, it is worth noting that coach Kerr clarified to the NBA fans that they will get to see their NBA Champion in the next game after explaining the difficulties of going through trouble to find the right matchup and sometimes benching stars like Tatum due to limited playing time.

But even if coach Kerr might have informed Tatum beforehand of the rotation necessities, the Celtics star seemed a little bit uncomfortable in the second half since he did not get a single minute to contribute to the Dream Team 2.0’s Serbia annihilation. And 3x Super Bowl Champion and NFL legend Shannon Sharpe claimed on the ‘Nightcap’ show why the 26-year-old was not accepting his reality despite reading the situation.

“The greater the player, the greater the talent, the greater the whatever it is, the more Pride he or she has. Don’t let anybody tell you otherwise, “ Sharpe reasoned the impact of the snub on Tatum.

Further adding to his point, Sharpe drew parallels to the other celebrities when he said, “Whether it’s Oprah, whether it’s Tyler Perry, whether it’s LeBron James, whether it’s Michael Jordan, whether it’s Beyonce, Taylor Swift, the greater the pride that they have.”

As the NFL legend went ahead to close his statement, he asserted, “Jayson Tatum is an All-NBA player, he is a perennial All-Star, he’s a champion. Yes! he has pride and he might not ever admit that you damn right it bothered him. Bro we’re on a global stage, I wanna grow my brand too!”

Well, it can’t be argued considering Tatum’s accolades like 5x NBA All-Star, All-Star MVP, 4 All-NBA, and an NBA champion. Still is it just a bold move from Kerr or routine for NBA players at the Olympics campaign?

Jayson Tatum’s debut Olympics group game came with the harsh reality of the Olympics!

Is Jayson Tatum's ego hurting Team USA's chances on the global stage?

Have an interesting take?

Jayson Tatum, who did not even get to take off his warmup shirt in the Group C opener game against Serbia at the Paris Olympics, might have become another part of the fate that happens to the big NBA players often during their Olympics gold pursuit. It has happened with legendary guard and playmaker from Jazz John Stockton when he only got to play on average 7.3 minutes on the ’92 Dream Team despite being a much better player than Christian Laettner who got 7.6 minutes of playing time on average.

Another example is Gary Payton being surpassed on average playing time by Penny Hardaway on the 1996 Dream Team. Also, the 2021 Olympic gold run witnessed Deron Williams averaging 18 minutes more than then 2x All-Star Russell Westbrook’s average of 13.8 minutes on-court period. Apparently, it’s not a new thing for decorated basketball players from the NBA to spend time on the sidelines due to a stacked roster full of NBA stars.

Rather, it is more about the perfect lineup, and Jayson Tatum, along with Tyrese Haliburton, has fallen victim to the harsh reality. There is nothing bothersome there though.

Even when Joel Embiid’s presence in the center is debatable since he immediately got replaced by Kerr in the initial moments due to his sluggish approach and turnovers, the rest of the moves were tactical. So, the overall resurgence and dominance of KD and LBJ for the stars and stripes were necessary to send a message ot the world, maybe?

What are your thoughts on these Team USA snubs reasoned with lineup requirements? Do you agree with it? Let us know in the comments.
