“That’s the tough part when you’re doing things a certain way, and the results aren’t matching. How do you continue to stay positive, and keep fighting and keep going forward?” Jayson Tatum went into introspective mode after this weekend’s brutal overtime loss against the Hawks. But being the reigning champs, his team knew exactly what they needed to do to bounce back. Sure enough, the Celtics responded brilliantly last night and blew the Warriors out by forty points. And JT revealed that the stark difference between NBA and NFL schedules was the reason they got over the Hawks loss so quickly.
Tatum said, “I think that’s the beauty of being in the NBA. You know NFL games, you lose, you got a whole week to harp on it and then try to get ready for the next opponent. With us, we could have been upset but you get on a six-hour flight and get ready for the next game.” Yes, NFL teams only suit up for seventeen games during the regular season, playing one game each weekend on most occasions. Although it allows the players to get ample rest, they could also get hung up on the outcome of the previous game because of the gap.
However, NBA’s gruelling 82-game season does not give the players enough time to dwell on the past. “You just gotta put the last game behind you because we just play so many games. Good or bad, like you can’t be too excited about what you just did or be too down on yourself cause it’s always another one 48 hours or so.” JT added.

But despite NFL conducting lesser games than Adam Silver’s league, they are somehow coming out on top in terms of ratings. Yes, the NFL raked in 65 million viewers for their Netflix debut on Christmas Day. And their two games attracted far more eyeballs than NBA’s five-game lineup, which averaged only 5.25 million viewers per game. Moreover, Silver’s league is going through a major decline in viewership, while it looks like the NFL has truly entered its Golden Era. And despite LeBron James claiming “Christmas is our day.” The league is slowly losing its grasp on the holiday games to its competitor. But Tatum is keeping an optimistic approach.

Well, the team in green came out firing on all cylinders against the Warriors. Although Tatum was the highest scorer with 22 points, five others on his team scored in double-digits. Moreover, they were dominant on defense, limiting their opponents to only 85 points. Sure, most people expected them to win anyway. But no one would have imagined that they would hand out the Warriors their worst home loss in forty years. Especially because the Cs had not won in Stephen Curry and Co.’s arena in three years.
Tatum even highlighted it in the postgame interview, “It’s a tough place to play. We ain’t won a game here since I think Game 1 of the finals in 2022. So, coming in here trying to be locked in.” But as impressive as the win was, it’s time to move on to the next game like JT remarked. And it will be against the Clippers on Wednesday. Onto the next!
