One might think that winning an NBA Championship and Olympic gold medal might be enough to answer your critics. Correct? Well, in most cases that might be true but not for Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum. He has been on the receiving end of it throughout his career. The latest name to join the list is a former NBA star himself.
While on an episode of “Gil’s Arena”, former Bucks guard Brandon Jennings took a shot at Tatum. Jennings called him “the softest Boston Celtics superstar ever.” This comment on the Celtics forward as expected gained enormous traction with fans wanting to know what Tatum thought of Jennings’ statement.
Well, Tatum took it to Instagram as he posted a montage consisting of some stylish pictures along with some match footage. Interestingly, the post was captioned “SoFtesT SuPeRstar in CeLtiC HiStoRy” as he took a subtle dig at the former Bucks guard. Moreover, after Boston played their latest game a reporter asked Tatum about what he thought of the comments.

To which he responded, “I wasn’t mad I just had some time yesterday. I think it comes with being one of the best players in the league and the more you accomplish. The more it gives people an opportunity to nitpick at things.” Stating that as he becomes more successful more people try to nitpick at his mistakes but that doesn’t really bother him. Well, his coach also came in his support as he defended his star player. Let’s see what Joe Mazzulla had to say.
Jayson Tatum’s coach Joe Mazzulla did not hold back when firing right back at Brandon Jennings
Joe Mazzulla addressed the ongoing tussle between his player Jayson Tatum and former NBA star Brandon Jennings. While Tatum took a nonchalant approach to the comments, his coach on the contrary took an aggressive route. He backed his star and clapped back at Jennings for taking shots at Tatum by reminding him of his playing days.

Mazzulla said, “Sometimes the older you get, the better you were as a player. You forget, like – and that’s everybody, people say that. So if we all just kind of remembered what we were then, we probably wouldn’t have so many opinions of other people,” Suggesting Jennings should take a look in his backyard before commenting on Tatum. Well, in Tatum’s support this season, he is averaging 27.8 points, which is the fourth-best in the league.
In addition, he also has 9.3 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game while shooting 46.1 percent from the field. Are these stats of a “soft” player? Nobody would think so. This is something even Gilbert Arenas pointed out when Jennings made these remarks about Tatum and rightly so. Nonetheless, it is great to see Joe Mazzulla having his players back and giving the naysayers a much-needed reality check.
