Miami Heat’s situation with Damian Lillard and Blazers

The league and fans loudly know Damian Lillard‘s desire to play alongside Jimmy Butler. However, despite his early demands, the two teams have failed to find common ground till now. Given the new side of Jimmy Butler’s super-max ambitions, it is essential to analyze how it can affect their chances of acquiring the Blazers superstar.

Looking at the Miami Heat’s payroll for the 2023-24 season, Jimmy Butler’s salary makes up 24.3% of the team’s total salary cap, while Bam Adebayo’s takes up 17.5%, and Tyler Herro’s accounts for 16%. These are after significant extensions given to them earlier. If the Heat were to acquire Lillard from Portland, his salary of $39.3 million would represent 35% of the league’s overall salary cap. However, for the Heat, operating well above the cap, Lillard’s salary would be a smaller percentage of their own cap.
