Jaylen Brown's $180K bill—just a rookie mistake or a rite of passage in the NBA?

The first of everything is always special. For example: debuting in the NBA with the Boston Celtics. The Celtics’ third overall pick of 2016, Jaylen Brown, remembers his ‘moment’ to date. Coming off a great stint with the University of California, the then-rookie JB walked onto the parquet floor with eyes gleaming with dreams.

He’s stood the test of time, and look where he’s now! A 3x NBA All-Star, 2024 NBA Finals MVP, and a champion- more achievements coming his way.

Appearing on the popular Hot Ones chatshow on YouTube, Jaylen Brown shared his first welcome moment. It seems just yesterday, the 20-year-old Marietta native donned the classic green jersey! But it’s been 8 years and 540 games, yet the first moment of glory can never fade away.

So, host Sean Evans asked, “Do you remember your first welcome to the NBA moment?” JB, while munching on some spicy wings, answered in a blink.

“Yeah. When the first check hits your bank account. ‘You’re welcome.’ That was my welcome, because like, I told them to mail it to me so I could just feel it and touch it.” Jaylen Brown proudly and cheekily declared.

He added: “Like, I wanted to see my first check. I wanted to feel it in my hand. The first check that I got was like 182,000 or something like that and I remember seeing that as an 18YO coming from a single-parent household. And I just see 180,000 hit and the first check I was like, ‘Alright! Welcome to the NBA.'”

A first paycheck of $180K was enough for JB to get his welcome moment.

For someone who’s grown up through the rough terrains of life, achieving one’s dream is like experiencing Paradise. So when JB got his moment to shine, he did. And he has been the brightest one for a long time now. For five consecutive seasons, Jaylen Brown has maintained a point average above 20, demonstrating how he has refined his skills as a shooting guard for the Celtics and has taken the lead for the team.

Jaylen Brown’s ‘rivalry’ with Jayson Tatum fuels the King of Boston debate

With a second consecutive title-winning season in sight, Celtics captain Jaylen Brown is going all-out on his teammates. To be more precise, the 27-year-old had been dueling with Jayson Tatum. It was surely a method of practice that the two stars have picked up this season. Well, it looks like the ‘rivalry’ between JB and Tatum is reaching extra levels as viral clips of the SG and the power forward have surfaced on the internet.

Well, just to be clear- this competition that the champs undertake at times is not to outshine one another. Instead, it is their way of improving themselves and enhancing each other’s gameplay.

So, while Tatum tried his best to defend the ball and shoot some perfect 3-pointers, Jaylen Brown went all-defensive on his teammate. Thus, you can see that they are not trying to downplay each other. It’s a part of their training instead!

Meanwhile, the debate over who the King of Boston can be sidelined, as both the hoopers are equally lethal and effective on the rival team. However, if we consider the stats, then maybe JB could get the upper hand. This is because he already has a Finals MVP honor with three All-Stars. However, Jayson Tatum has five All-Stars!

Well, this is a tricky debate and we’re leaving it to the audience to decide.
