Jaylen Brown started his NBA career with the Boston Celtics as the third-overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft. Ever since, he has stuck around with the Celtics for eight seasons. Brown has admitted that he loves playing for the Celtics. And the prospect of him leaving the team is definitely not on the table. In fact, he is looking forward to newer heights taking on the leadership role for the Celtics.

Jaylen was always favoured as a valuable player for the team’s success rather than a central firgure. As such, his name would often come up as a trade-asset whenever big names in the league hit free agency. However, with the new season on the horizon, Brown is prepping for the big prize. And his narrative will definitely take a new turn.

Jaylen Brown ready to take on leadership role

Brown signed a five-year supermax extension contract of $304 million with the Celtics; considered as the richest contract signed in the NBA. Jaylen Brown is staying! And he is staying for good. He admits that he is ready to be a central player for the team and step into the leadership role. What’s more, he plans to steer the team towards another shot at the Championship, sharing the spotlight with other star player Jayson Tatum.

All pumped up to have an amazing run at the season, Brown said, “”I put in a lot of work trying to make plays, trying to get guys open. Trying to get our offense set. Seeing the game, reading the game. Overall, just being a better basketball player. Can?t wait to show it this year.” With huge contracts come great responsibilities, but Brown looks ready to once again set the court on fire. Brown says to look forward to hearing his voice a little more often this time around, “I think we?ve got a lot of voices that are no longer with us ? Blake (Griffin), Grant (Williams), Smart. All very vocal guys. So, I think, definitely, hearing my voice, JT?s voice a little bit more this season.”

Brown’s career-defining moment came in the previous season, when he led the Celtics to one game short of a back-to-back NBA Finals appearance. He also secured his second All-Star selection and second-team All-NBA nod. To add to the accolates, he averaged 26.6 points, 6.9 rebounds and 3.5 assists.?With a restructured team, the Celtics will be one to look out for.

Boston Celtics new look

The Celtics made major offseason adjustments to their core. Marcus Smart, who had previously held the starting point guard position, was traded off to Memphis, and replaced by defensive powerhouse Jrue Holiday. They also traded in Kristaps Porzingis and let go of Robert Williams III and Malcolm Brogdon.

With a top six in the team that includes Brown, Tatum, Porzingis, Holiday, Derrick White, and seasoned veteran Al Horford, controlling playing time will be difficult. However, Tatum emphasises the value of having a team-first mindset by describing this as a “good problem” to have.
