The Boston Celtics won Game 1 of the 2024 NBA Finals, and Jaylen Brown was highly credited enough for his contribution. But it hasn’t been a smooth ride at all for JB so far in the NBA. Every move the Celtics’ shooting guard makes is eligible for criticism and it has been that way in the past years. Despite delivering clinical performances, Brown is often cut out by his rivals for lack of dribbling on the left. Every time the 27-year-old misses a shot or messes up a turnover, it is scrutinized by the critics.
Honestly, Brown is one of the best and most talented basketball players to step on the basketball court. However, his inability to rise on the occasion has proved to be fatal for the Celtics many times. It is the 6th time they’ve entered the post-season with Brown and 2nd time in the Finals. This year, they’ve also got their closest chance to seize the title with an absolute offense firing on all cylinders. Notably, even Jason Kidd unexpectedly added words of appreciation for JB amidst all the chaos.
In Game 1 of the Finals series, he picked up Luka Doncic in the full court. His scoreline (3 blocks, 3 steals, and 22 points) highlights that he was useful on both ends. Which simply means he is not a bad player at all. The only concern about his performance that attracts criticism is consistency. Despite being such a raw talent, he sometimes commits silly mistakes. If the team is in distress, he can turn it around solely. But he isn’t completely reliable. In that case, they reframed it to everything balanced around Tatum and Brown.

Though Brown’s on-court moves are questioned, no one stands a chance against his academic prowess. Hailing from a well-educated family, Brown attended the University of California, Berkeley. It is one of the most prestigious universities in the US, and JB studied there during his college basketball career. He also enrolled in the college’s chess team and perfected his lingo in the Spanish language.
At the NBA, he became the youngest Vice-President of the NBPA at the age of just 22. There are too many speculations about his exact IQ on the internet. However, none of those figures could be verified. Moreover, his career has taken off as a lecturer as well. Last year, the shooting guard lectured MIT students on robotics in the offseason while his $304 million contract was finalized. Meanwhile, he is also serving as the MIT Media Lab fellow on the varsity team. No wonder he is one of the smartest athletes out there.
Because of his excellent academic prowess, he was even offered an internship at NASA! However, Brown’s NBA commitments were high, so he did not accept it. Apart from being an academic genius, he is also an advocate for social justice. With the clout that he has now, JB expressed his desire to bring Black Wall Street to Boston in 2023.
