Is Jaylen Brown right about Bronny James not being NBA material? What's your take?

Jaylen Brown, along with his girlfriend, Kysre Gondrezick, was spotted sitting courtside for the Celtics vs Lakers Summer League matchup in Las Vegas. Sitting beside the pair was the WNBA rookie, Angel Reese, as well. While the pair took the ESPYS by storm with their all-black, power-couple outfit, this time though, the 2024 NBA champion is getting the attention for a different reason.

Although nothing is confirmed, it seems as though hawk-eyed lip readers on X have picked up quite a controversial comment from JB. Controversial how? Simply because it pertains to the most popular Lakers’ rookie, Bronny James. Per the X user, Brown’s alleged comment goes something like this: “I don’t think Bronny is a pro”- Jaylen brown.

Well, watching the final Vegas matchup, no one would say otherwise. It was another rough night for the young James. Despite the crowd at Thomas & Mack Center giving him top support, Bronny couldn’t translate the energy into results. His stat line at the end of the 74-88 loss read two points, three rebounds, one assist, and one block while going 1-of-5 from the field and 0-of-3 from downtown in 25 minutes. In fact, it got so bad that many fans opted for an early exit rather than watch the heartbreaking defeat.

But the dissection of the 2024 Finals MVP’s words wasn’t done yet.

Fans on X delve deep into the viral Jaylen Brown comments on Bronny James

Legion Hoops account on X took a safe stance while posting the clip. “Don’t quote me, but after lip reading, seems like Jaylen Brown doesn’t believe Bronny is a pro at this moment.” In all honesty, Brown isn’t the first to have a similar line of thought.

Have an interesting take?

In fact, such comments have been directed at James Jr. ever since his underwhelming performances at USC.

Of course, analyses based on the 19-year-old’s performances do hold some merit. There is only so much one can support the young guard in the face of a disappointing stat line. However, ridiculing and negative critiques have also been a part of his life and all of it is thanks to the surname he carries – James. The fact that Lakers, LeBron, and Bronny supporters try so hard to focus on the positives when he continues to struggle on the floor, isn’t of too much help, either.

Well, Bronny has had a tough past year, and he is only 19. He already made his intention of paving a different road for himself clear. So, all we can hope is the firstborn James can make good on his promise. Back to Jaylen Brown; this next user has just one response to JB’s comment.

““I don’t think Bronny’s a pro..” Yikes,” referring to either the influx of criticisms about to be directed his way from James and Lakers fans or how the father himself might take to such a comment. In fact, it didn’t take long for them to flow. Here’s one such fan.

“I also don’t think Jaylen brown is an Olympic player. Since we are all thinking 😑,” taking a dig at the Olympic snub. Brown’s teammate Derrick White was selected to be Kawhi Leonard’s replacement. Despite expressing his interest in representing his country, when the opportunity arose, it went to White, who was already favored to land that spot. And finally, this individual had a reminder of sorts for the newly minted NBA champion.

“Jaylen Brown was Raw AF coming out of college, a lot of people were questioning how high he went in the draft. With time he developed his game and became the final MVP. He should be the last person talking about another player not being a “pro” when they’re only 19.”

It won’t be that hard to forget that the 2016 No. 3 pick was drafted into Boston with a rain of boos on his draft night. And from there, a young Brown had to fight for his place and assert his dominance every step of the way. There was always something he was lacking. And yet, the 3x All-Star kept his head down and continued grinding until the Cs got that 18th championship and his very first title behind a league-high regular season record!

So, in a way, this above fan does have a point. If anything, Jaylen Brown would understand the struggles of having heavy expectations and being thrust into the spotlight too early. Anyway, there is no doubt the 27-year-old would probably come forward with an explanation soon. Let’s wait and see what he has to say.

Well, what do you think? Was Jaylen right in his opinion of Bronny James? Or was it needless criticism? Tell us more in the comments.
