While their competitors are busy doing massive shakeups at the deadline, the Celtics have been rather silent during the trade window. Obviously, they are content with the star-studded core that led them to the championship last season. However, the team donning green made a major roster change tonight while the squad was on the hardwood facing the Mavs…
And it turns out Jaylen Brown had no idea about it. Derrick White, on the other hand, was more focused on a concerning safety issue in the team’s locker room!
Yes, the Celtics have signed veteran forward Torrey Craig for the remainder of the season as reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania, after he was waived by the Chicago Bulls earlier this week “to clear roster spots following their trade of Zach LaVine”. Notably, Craig has not played in an NBA game since late December—he played in just nine games this season owing to a right lower leg contusion and a right ankle sprain. But it looks like the Cs believed they could benefit from adding him to the roster.

When Brown was asked about Craig’s signing, he was taken by surprise, “This is news to me. We signed Torrey Craig? It’s my first time hearing about it.” Yes, the reigning Finals MVP had no clue his team was going after the veteran forward. However, JB showed complete faith in his front office’s decision, “Obviously, our office is always trying to make some moves to make sure that we put ourselves in a good position. So, I trust that.”
Notably, this comes after Celtics President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens detailed what the team was looking for in a pre-game interview (Celtics vs Dallas Mavericks, which the latter ultimately won 127-120). “I think the first thing that we’ll look to do is bring in a wing,” he had said.
Having said that, although Craig is currently injured, he could be a significant role player for the Celtics. When healthy, he is a skilled all-around player who averages 6 points and four rebounds for his career. Moreover, he was shooting 42.9% from three before the injury. That fits well with Joe Mazzulla’s playing style.
Jaylen Brown did not know the Celtics signed Torrey Craig:

On a separate note, Brown was giving an honest reaction to Craig’s signing, there was a major issue causing distraction during the interview.

Fire Alarm blares in Celtics locker room
During JB’s interview, there was a constant sound of fire alarm blaring in the background. Turns out, it was coming from the Celtics’ locker room. Although the reason behind it remains unknown, it raised concerns about the team’s safety. But it might just have been a technical glitch as Brown went on with his interview like it was no big deal.
Meanwhile, when Derrick White was asked about the alarm, he said, “That kind of night.” Obviously, Craig’s signing, and the alarm was not the only shocker of the night. The Celtics also suffered a heartbreaking defeat at home against the Mavericks.

Hopefully, Craig’s addition will give them a boost after tonight’s upset and they will be back on track for Saturday’s Knicks clash.
