Amid the Stephen A. Smith-Jaylen Brown feud, Mechalle Brown attempted to keep the peace

Before securing his first championship ring, Jaylen Brown was involved in a public feud with renowned ESPN sportscaster Stephen A. Smith. It all started when the latter highlighted a quote reportedly made by a few ‘anonymous sources’, stating “Jaylen Brown, it’s not so much that he is underrated, it’s that he’s just not liked because of his ‘I am better than you’ attitude. He knows it. It’s the same reason he is not as marketable as he should be”. The player allegedly refused to believe that there was any ‘source’ and indirectly referenced that Smith made it up by replying “State your Source” to the sportscaster.

During a recent episode of his ‘The Stephen A. Smith Show’ the ESPN personality recalled Mechalle Brown coming up to him in the aftermath of Game 4 of the NBA Finals, which the Celtics lost by a score of 122-84. The feud between Brown and Smith was still making headlines by that time. While sending out his prayers to Jaylen Brown’s grandmother, who passed away last year, the sportscaster praised the fact that Mechalle knew that he did not hold any negative thoughts towards her son.

They thanked me, because they got the message that I have no problem with Jaylen Brown, I got nothing but love for Jaylen Brown,” said Smith.

Despite Mechalle’s efforts, Jaylen Brown didn’t drop the matter easily. After all, what else could have convinced him to don a “State Your Source” T-Shirt while heading out to join the Celtics Victory Parade held a few days ago? This ongoing public dispute added another layer of complexity to Jaylen’s journey, highlighting the strong support system provided by his mother throughout both his professional challenges and triumphs.
