Marcus Smart's transformation: Is it all hard work, or is there more to the story?

A new NBA season is upon us, and many stars who were injured last season are ready to make their return to the court. Well, Marcus Smart is among those players as he has fully recovered from the finger injury that limited him to only 20 games last year. As expected, the former DPOY has been putting in the work over the summer to get back in game shape and even boasted his new look on social media. However, that led to a hilarious exchange between him and his former Celtics teammate Jaylen Brown, as the reigning Finals MVP accused Smart of drug use.

In his latest Instagram post, Smart shared multiple images of his dawning the Grizzlies uniform. “Year 11 Loading (hour glass emoji)” the veteran guard wrote, hyped about his return to action. Despite being out for most of last season, he looked in great shape in the pictures and even appeared more muscular and leaner than he has been in the past. Noticing the change, Jaylen Brown playfully commented on the post saying, “My boy been on the ozempick @rozier.” Even tagging another former teammate, Terry Rozier.

Sure enough, Ozempic is a medication that curbs a person’s appetite. And that eventually leads to weight loss. Yes, the drug is not banned in the NBA. But its use is frowned upon in most major sports leagues. So, JB’s comment was most likely a joke to appreciate Smart’s transformation. Moreover, he even dropped another comment on the Grizzlies star’s post, “You look good fam !!” And this time, Smart responded with a hilarious reply, “@fchwpo Lmaoo boy funny love my g” Obviously, there is nothing but love between Brown and Smart as they were teammates in Boston for seven years and went on multiple playoff runs together. But it’s time for Smart to focus on the upcoming season.

Marcus Smart aims to ‘Stay Healthy’ amid Knicks’ rumored interest

Well, Smart and Brown’s hilarious exchange surely highlighted the incredible shape the former DPOY is in. And that will help him achieve his aim for this year following an injury-riddled season. “First of all, I gotta stay healthy. For me, just coming in and be me. I didn’t get that opportunity last year… That’s impact winning every way that I can,” He said. Moreover, Smart finally returned to the court earlier this week as he made his preseason debut against the Mavs.

As expected, there was some rust, but he looked in decent form overall, scoring 6 points and dishing out five assists. He continued it in the next game by scoring four points against the Hornets. While Smart gets ready for the regular season, there have been murmurs about the Knicks having internal discussions regarding a potential deal for the veteran guard. Yes, the move is not certain. But it does hint at the franchise’s interest in Smart. Whether it’s for the Grizzlies or any other team, Smart is only focused on having a successful season and winning games, “I’m more about showing. I’m more about going on the court and letting my game do the talking for me.” What are your thoughts about his latest transformation?
