After the return of De’Aaron Fox, the Sacramento Kings have come back stronger on their winning ways. In their next match-up after a 4-game winning streak, they took on the in-form Dallas Mavericks. As expected, both teams went toe-to-toe in a spectacular contest. However, things got out of hand for a moment when the Kings took a steady lead in the latter part of the first quarter, where Sac’s JaVale McGee and his ex-teammate received a technical foul each.

Drama has always been part of the basketball action and the players from previous generations got away with it. In the current NBA setup, players receive tech calls for celebrating their dunks in front of their opponents. Recently, Giannis Antetokounmpo received a tech call celebrating his dunk and later got ejected in the same game with another tech. While things didn’t go that far on the Sac-Mavs game, it sure did catch the NBA world’s attention.

The 7 ft. tall NBA veteran JaVale McGee is currently playing his 16th season and has represented 9 franchises. After spending a year with the Mavericks, he moved to the Kings this season, taking up the role of back-up center with 11-minute average game time. Nevertheless, he had a heated moment with his former teammate, Tim Hardaway Jr.

With less than 2 minutes left in the first quarter, Mavs’ star Hardaway Jr. ran down the lane for a layup and McGee followed him to block the shot. But both stars fell onto the floor in follow up and Hardaway in motion, pushed his hand forcefully against McGee.

The action seemed to disappoint the big man, and he aggressively followed him for an exchange while the rest tried to hold him back. After a quick look at the replay, the refs called tech on Hardaway and McGee.

Disappointment spread in the air, as some felt that the hostile act of technical foul on McGee was uncalled for. While many felt the refs went by the books.

On the other hand, let’s dig deep into technical fouls on hostile acts.

What is a hostile act in a technical foul?

The refs have the power to call a technical foul if they find a player not complying with the NBA rule book. One such rule is engaging in hostile acts. In NBA terms, when players engage in aggressive physical or verbal altercations, it comes under the definition of a hostile act. It can follow up to become a double technical when the player repeatedly argues with the refs to take the call back. A double technical foul leads to a player getting ejected. In a recent game, Giannis Antetokounmpo dropped a bucket and gave a stare-down to his opponent. The refs immediately called a tech and later ejected him from the game.
