The Dallas Mavericks were in dire straits after they lost all their big men to injury. It left them scrambling to improvise with their already thin roster. However, Jason Kidd had some optimistic updates ahead of their New Orleans Pelicans game. Updates concerning the often-injured PJ Washington and a new face in the Mavs locker room. It seems help is on the way to Dallas.

The news about PJ first. Coach Kidd announced that PJ Tucker will play without any minutes restriction on Friday. Finally! Some breathing room for the Mavs when it comes to their big man.

Washington is averaging 14.2 points and 8.2 rebounds this season. While not the best numbers in the league, they are serviceable, considering the situation the Mavs were facing not long ago. Washington was originally listed as OUT for this game, but he’s since been upgraded to QUESTIONABLE.

Coach Kidd was also very high on the new signee, Moses Brown. The Dallas Mavericks signed the 7-foot-2 center on a 10-day contract to add another option to their devastated frontcourt. With PJ Washington back, this will ease a lot of anxious Mavericks fans’ worries.

The Dallas Mavericks’ head coach spoke quite highly of Brown. He laid out the expectations he had for Moses moving forward: “With the proper minutes, I think he can give you a double-double. He can score and rebound for you, and so if he does get into the teens of playing, he can fill up the stat sheet. First day of practice for him yesterday, I thought he looked really good,” said Kidd.

Moses will certainly bring relief to the depleted Mavericks squad. Moreover, given their center situation in the past weeks. However, as we told you, help is on the way and it’s not only Washington and Brown that are arriving for the ‘Big D’.

Another Dallas Mavericks player upgraded on the injury report amid PJ Washington’s return

The addition of Anthony Davis did add depth to the Dallas frontcourt. We can’t deny that—on paper at least. However, did the Mavs really expect to rely on him to stay healthy? Especially when he arrived at the franchise injured? Injuries to Dereck Lively II and Daniel Gafford only made things worse. Soon the Dallas Mavericks were left without a center.

And that’s how they’ve been playing for their last few games. Dark times. But that dark cloud is finally lifting with the signing of Moses Brown and the returns of PJ Washington and hopefully, Dwight Powell. The veteran center for the Dallas Mavericks has been out since January 17 after suffering a hip strain.

Powell was originally listed as OUT for this, but like PJ Washington, his status was upgraded. He’s now listed as DOUBTFUL for the New Orleans Pelicans game. Even if he doesn’t end up playing against the Pelicans, the news of his return is cause for celebration for Dallas fans.

The Dallas Mavericks are finally starting to show signs of life following the shocking Luka Doncic trade. Even as they play the Pelicans tonight and the Warriors next, they will have one eye on the fixture on Tuesday. Why? Well, they’ll be visiting the Los Angeles Lakers and this marks Luka Doncic’s first meeting with them since their split earlier this month.

GM Nico Harrison will be hoping that his team can show that they’re doing just fine after trading Luka (even if they’re not).
