Things nearly got ugly during tonight’s game between the Los Angeles Lakers and the San Antonio Spurs. The Lakers won comfortably, stretching their win streak to 2 with a dominant 125-109 victory. But all that got overshadowed when Jarred Vanderbilt and the Spurs’ Jeremy Sochan nearly came to blows during the fourth quarter.
It all unfolded when Sochan drove into the paint with the Lakers forward guarding him. But Vando may have gone a little overboard with his physical defense. He dished out two hard shoves and the ref then called a foul in his favor. But Sochan didn’t appreciate this in the slightest. So, the Spurs star retaliated by chucking the ball right at Vando.
And boy did this upset the Lakers star! He proceeded to shove Sochan once more, right in front of the referee, no less! Their teammates stepped in immediately to stop things from escalating. But it wasn’t until the arena’s security stepped in that some semblance of order was restored.

JARRED VANDERBILT VS. JEREMY SOCHAN. 🍿
— Hoop Central (@TheHoopCentral) March 18, 2025
Both players were ejected from the game for their actions. Even so, this was quite embarrassing for both teams, optics-wise. Floyd Mayweather, who was sitting courtside seemed to not react to this “brawl” at all. Something which the announcers pointed out, adding to the goofiness of it all.
Nevertheless, Vanderbilt’s actions didn’t amount to much aside from his ejection since the Lakers virtually had the win in the bag. All it did was distract from how good the Lakers looked tonight. So, let’s switch focus for a while.
What’s your perspective on:
Did Jarred Vanderbilt's aggressive defense cross the line, or was Jeremy Sochan's reaction over the top?

Lakers cruise to dominant victory over Spurs despite Jarred Vanderbilt brawl
The Lakers are in the midst of a grueling stretch of games where they will play 20 games in 5 weeks. And they looked like they were about to falter after the injury to LeBron James. But we should know not to underestimate JJ Redick’s men by now. The Lakers are back to their winning ways with tonight’s victory making it 2 in a row.
And what a dominant display it was tonight! The Spurs never looked like they were going to win this game. They had a 15-0 run but still couldn’t cut the Lakers’ lead down to less than 10 points. The Lakers’ 28-point lead which Austin Reaves’ 9 points in 3 and a half minutes helped achieve may have had something to do with that.

Speaking of Austin, he continued his brilliant scoring run for the Lakers tonight. The man has picked up a lot of the offensive burden since LeBron’s injury. This was his fourth consecutive game with 28 points or more. And there’s no doubt his prowess made Luka Doncic more confident in passing him the ball. Luka himself was 1 rebound shy of another triple showing how the Lakers outclassed the Spurs tonight even on an individual level.
Jarred Vanderbilt’s ejection seems like an afterthought once you realize how well JJ Redick’s men played tonight. We’re sure you Lakers fans loved the fact that your team is now 2-0 in this homestead. But as Kobe once said, “Job’s not finished.”
