Is Jamie Foxx's LeBron campaign a joke, or does King James still deserve the MVP spotlight?

If the 2024 Paris Olympics was LeBron James’s last international stint, then he certainly went off in style! By establishing himself as one of Team USA’s highest average scorers at the age of 39, the NBA star took the team all the way to the Finals and defeated the host country to win his third Olympic gold medal. Amidst other skilled scorers like Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant, his contribution did not go unnoticed, as the player was declared the MVP of the Men’s Olympic Basketball Tournament at the end of the nail-biting Final matchup. Unfortunately, even this honor has now been a major topic of debate.

From across the pond, America celebrates Team USA’s win, and even the most renowned celebrities are sharing their reaction. Taking to his official Instagram account, veteran actor Jamie Foxx devoted a whole post to highlight LeBron James’s MVP honor to his 17.3 million followers. Calling him out as the ‘King’, the actor implored his followers to appreciate the NBA star “while we got him.” Furthermore, without any hesitation, Foxx declared LeBron as “the best player on the Olympic team” and the ultimate “GOAT.” However, not everyone was convinced that LeBron James should have been handed the MVP title. Instead, it was the opinion of many that Stephen Curry should have been presented with the honor.

Therefore, while Jamie Foxx would have made his remarks in good faith, the reaction he started getting was not what many would have expected. One social media user outright stated that “So corny Steph carried way more then bro, way more clutch shots and moments.”

Stephen Curry managed to emerge as Team USA’s top scorer, but barely. At the end of Team USA’s six-game run, LeBron had averaged 14.2 points per game, while Stephen Curry held 14.8. LeBron took the lead with his 6.8 rebounds and 8.5 assists per game. Stephen Curry emerged as a commendable game changer during the final two games, since he dropped 36 and 24 points respectively to change the tide at the crucial moment. However, when it came to overall efficiency, LeBron held a rating of a 141, while the Warriors star fell back at 87.

One commentor made her case by stating “Curry was MVP!! (fire emoji) Wouldn’t have beat Serbia (or France) without him!! No Chef no Gold (gold medal emoji).” This was a reference to how, during the Semi-Finals, Team USA had come quite close to losing the game at the hands of Nikola Jokic and co. In fact, by the time the fourth quarter came around, Serbia was leading 76-63! Stephen Curry helped his team take the lead by making a jaw-dropping 9-14 three-pointers and over 12-19 field goals. He repeated the same feat against France by making 8-12 three-pointers and 8-13 field goals.

One individual decided to stay neutral and appeal to both sides through his remarks. He proceeded to comment “He (LeBron) the King, but Curry was MVP!” Sending out the support for both individuals would be the right thing. After all, when it comes to the NBA, both individuals currently hold an exact 10-10 win record against each other.

Amidst all the support for Stephen Curry, however, LeBron also found some support. One commentator outright stated that “Curry really only showed up the last two games…… glad he did tho.” While the Warriors star’s performance against Serbia and France was commendable, he only averaged 7.25 points during his first four games. Furthermore, while Stephen Curry is known for his prowess in regards to three-pointers, his percentage averaged a low 25%.

Many may continue to debate on the Olympics MVP issue for quite some time. However, Jamie Foxx shouldn’t be blamed for his opinion. After all, if his longtime fans know something, it is that the actor will always give the ‘GOAT’ status to LeBron James.

Jamie Foxx chose LeBron James over Michael Jordan in iconic GOAT debate

Having been born in 1967, Jamie Foxx spent his 20s and 30s in the same decade at which Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan was at the height of his power. The actor himself once recalled feeling the aura of His Airness when having a chance encounter with him. In fact, the NBA star was so charismatic, he ended up walking away with Foxx’s date following him! Despite this, when it comes to picking the ultimate GOAT, the actor has his mind made up.

Back in May 2024, a clip featuring an interview with NBA coach Doc Rivers went viral. During the same, he proceeded to point out the main difference between Jordan and LeBron by stating “When Michael came into the league, he surprised everyone how great he was. When LeBron came into the league, they expected him to be great, so it was already on him. Michael, in some ways, we allowed him to grow into greatness. We didn’t allow LeBron that, and he is still overachieved.” As a result, Rivers believed that LeBron was better than anyone ever thought. Jamie Foxx agreed with this remark, as he took to the comments section and simply wrote “Preach!”

Jamie Foxx may have been genuine in his praise, or he might have been still mad that the Bulls legend stole his date! Either way, he is a certified LeBron supporter, and proud of it.
