Less than 10 days into the new season, an ongoing saga has reached its conclusion. James Harden is officially heading to the Los Angeles Clippers, as they finally came to an understanding with the Philadelphia 76ers. On the other hand, Harden gets his wish fulfilled of being traded to the Clippers and nowhere else. After all, in pursuit of his desire, the guard even resorted to publicly tarnishing the Philadelphia 76ers‘ president, Daryl Morey’s reputation.
With Joel Embiid‘s MVP-winning performance last season, Philadelphia can now fully focus on matters of the court. The breaking news about Harden’s trade was initially reported by ESPN’s insider, Adrian Wojnarowski. JJ Reddick, a former player for both franchises gave his thoughts on the winners in the trade.

Firstly, JJ Redick believes that despite a decline in James Harden’s market value, Philly has come out as a clear winner. In his opinion, there is an opportunity for the 76ers to further enhance their roster through more skillful executions of additional transactions. Drawing parallel with headline-grabbing trade by the Portland Trail Blazers, he says, “I look at this sort of like how Portland did the Dame trade. I don’t think Philly is done wheeling and dealing.”
Redick acknowledges the quality of the players involved in the trade. However, he asserts that, with the right approach, Philadelphia can fully capitalize on its new deal.

In pursuit of handing Harden his wish, the Sixers sent three players, James Harden, P.J. Tucker, and Filip Petru?ev, to the Los Angeles Clippers. In exchange, they received 5 players, multiple draft picks, and a swap. Notably, they received Marcus Morris, Nic Batum, Robert Covington, and KJ Martin to don their jerseys. Despite their elite days behind them, Philly’s new acquisitions are solid role players when utilized correctly. Furthermore, the 76ers get an unprotected first-round pick from 2028 and two second-round picks. Additionally, they also received a 2029 draft-pick swap and an additional 2026 first-rounder from the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The conclusion of the James Harden saga appears to be a satisfactory resolution. After all, the relationship between the superstar player and the franchise had deteriorated. After accusing Sixers’ team president Daryl Morey of dishonesty, Harden also declared he would never play for a franchise under Morey’s leadership. This left the 76ers with a challenging decision, particularly considering that Harden had yet to step on the court for them this season.
