Returning from a scary injury, Jalen Willaims dropped a positive update. The OKC Thunder star J-Dub spoke to the reporters after the win against the Dallas Mavericks and revealed the status of his ankle injury. During the game against the Memphis Grizzlies, Williams rolled both his ankles after stepping on the cameraperson on the baseline. After missing out on the following game, he returned tonight with an emphatic performance.

Speaking of his ankle, Williams said, “My ankle feels fine.” He dropped 27 points with three blocks in the Thunder’s comfortable 126-119 win over the Mavs. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Josh Giddy put up 49 points together to help the team cross the line and clinch the top seed again.

Williams indeed put up a miraculous effort, playing 35 minutes after returning from a grave injury. When he rolled his ankle against the Grizzlies a few days ago, he had played only 10 minutes and management ruled him out for the next game, citing an ankle sprain.

The sophomore star was expected to miss tonight’s game as well, but the team didn’t list him in the injury report ahead of the Mavs clash. The star even credited the medical staff after the game for his quick recovery. Williams added, Tired. That’s about it… I rolled both of them last time… Shout out to the medical staff.”

Considering the number of games that Stephen Curry missed after rolling an ankle, Williams definitely has turned it around after rolling both of his. In Steph’s absence, the Warriors have lost two out of their three games. Similarly, in the absence of Jalen Williams, the OKC suffered a shocking loss against the Indiana Pacers.

The 22-year-old has managed to make himself a crucial piece in the OKC fold in his sophomore year. Compared to his rookie season, he has taken a tremendous leap.

Jalen Williams stats (2023-24)

The OKC picked Jalen Williams as the 12th pick of the 2022 NBA Draft. In his rookie season, he registered an average of 14.1 points with 4.5 rebounds and 3.3 assists. While the team hasn’t changed much in the youngster’s minutes on the court, he improved his average points quite remarkably.

So far in this season, after playing 59 games, he has averaged 19.2 points with 4 rebounds and 4.5 assists. This is truly a boon for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to find a championship team amid his MVP season. While Shai produced MVP numbers consistently, Williams and Chet Holmgren could play the second fiddle to help the Canadian star lift his maiden NBA trophy.
