Did ESPN's height blunder just fuel Jalen Williams' fire to dominate on the court?

The perfect Robin to Batman! But even Robin wouldn’t like it when the media doesn’t get its facts straight, wouldn’t you say? That was Jalen Williams after the OKC Thunder’s remarkable victory over the Clippers tonight. With Oklahoma City losing its star center, Chet Holmgren too, in their previous matchup, everyone had predicted the downfall of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander & Co. early in the season. But perhaps they did not take Williams into consideration.

We will get to the 23-year-old’s stunning performance tonight in a moment. Right now, though, let’s take a look at what exactly he took offense to and who the culprit was. The $24 billion cable and satellite TV network ESPN, in collaboration with SportsCenter, shared quite an interesting post.

“Chet Holmgreen and Isaiah Hartenstein’s injuries got OKC’s starting five looking different,” was written as a description while the post in itself had a caption, “Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is the tallest player in the Thunder’s starting five tonight.”

Now this is where Jalen Williams got pretty upset. The second slide showed the starters for the matchup, with their heights also mentioned. Williams was listed at 6’5. As soon as it caught his attention, the Denver native re-shared the post in his story, hilariously calling out the media giant with just two words: “I’m 6’6.”

For those who might miss out on the story, here’s the seemingly offensive post.

Duly noted Williams! There is no way anyone would dare mention him as a 6’5 guard again, that’s for sure. That said, why don’t we take a look at how well the 2022 first-round pick did tonight?

Jalen Williams stepped up in the absence of key big men for OKC

With both Chet Holmgren and Isaiah Hartenstein out, the Thunder went small, using the 6’6 Williams as their starting center against the Clippers. Despite his size, Jalen made an impact as the second-highest scorer after SGA, who had a mind-blowing 45 points for the night.

The Santa Clara alum, for his part, racked up 28 points on a super-efficient 11-of-18 shooting, which included 2-of-3 from the deep and a perfect 4-of-4 at the line. Furthermore, he also led the team with eight boards and anchored a gritty defense. With the Thunder’s big men expected to remain sidelined at least for a while, the team will likely continue with this smaller lineup.

Williams has already proven his defensive toughness, scoring 20+ points in seven games through 11 games. He’s filled in as a small-ball center in spurts before, but now OKC will rely more heavily on Jalen to continue what he did tonight. Considering how well he held himself against a big like Ivica Zubac tonight, there are no doubts as to just how versatile and tenacious he can be.

As Jalen Williams continues to prove his adaptability and skill, it’s clear he’s a player no one should underestimate—especially those who aren’t getting his stats quite right!
