The intense battle that was the Philadelphia 76ers vs New York Knicks has come to a tantalizing finish! The Sixers stayed close on the heels of the Knicks, but they became the better team with a 118-115 victory at the former’s home court. Its not an ideal situation for Philly, but there can only be one winner.

But in somewhat hilarious and sweet revenge, Knicks superstar, Jalen Brunson, didn’t forget to take a shot at Sixers’ minority owner, Michael Rubin, for his dig at New York. The Fanatics CEO tweeted that he bought over 2,000 tickets so that Knicks fans wouldn’t take over the Wells Fargo Center. The tickets that he had bought were given to “first responders, healthcare professionals, and other local Philadelphia-based organizations.” But only after making sure they were true Sixers fans and not “imposters.”

Brunson, talking to the Inside crew after the game, said, “I’m just glad we got enough Knicks fans here. They didn’t buy all the tickets!” Well, sweet comeback! But Rubin’s tweet could also have been based on Joel Embiid’s comments after Game 4. Following the devastating loss, yet again on their home court, the big man said it was disappointing that Knicks fans in Philly were “just down the road.”

The leading stars of both teams were brutal and determined tonight. Jalen Brunson put up a dominant 41 points, three rebounds and 12 assists to cap the night. His partner-in-crime, Donte DiVincenzo, had a stat line of 23 points, four rebounds, and seven assists. Josh Hart also rose to the occasion and did his part. He had a double-double for the team: 16 points, 14 rebounds, and seven assists.

As for the 76ers, Joel Embiid gave one of his best postseason performances. He finished the night with the only double-double in the team—39 points and 13 rebounds. Tyrese Maxey contributed 17 points, five assists, and five rebounds.

Jalen Brunson has been on a milestone achievement run this postseason

Brunson is truly turning out to be the franchise’s cornerstone. And in the process, he is creating a resume that reads greatness, guaranteed. Look no further than the last four games of the first-round playoffs; he hasn’t scored less than 39 points in any of them. The last time a player scored 37 or more points in four straight playoff games was Michael Jordan in 1993.

Here’s a list of a few achievements he’s had this season in the playoffs.

  • He is the first player since Oscar Robertson to score 35 points and 10 assists in 3 different games in a single playoff series.
  • Becoming the first Knicks player since Bernard King to record 40+ points in three successive playoff games. The Knicks veteran, for his part, had four consecutive playoff games with the same record in 1984.

Not to mention, Jalen Brunson played heavy minutes throughout the six-game series. Except for Game 2, when he logged in 38 minutes, the rest of the first-round matchups saw Brunson play no less than 41 minutes. An aspect coach Thibodeau would perhaps continue as they face the Pacers for the Conference Semifinals.
