New York’s unity, their feeling of togetherness, the camaraderie, and their spirit, nothing will die even though their season run has. The final 1 minute into the game, we all knew it was the Indiana Pacers. They made it to the Conference Finals for the first time in a decade. Injuries did riddle Tyrese Haliburton and Co. throughout, but their defensive strategies made them a steady force. So, how much collateral damage does this do to NY’s high spirits? The die-hard Knicks fan base, that’s known for their boisterous behavior.

Even Jalen Brunson knew what went down today would have crushed the otherwise full-of-energy Knicks’ fan base. So, in his press conference, he decided to address the loss and plead for mercy. He said, “They have been nothing but amazing. It’s really cool. I’m so thankful for them. The nights we need energy, they’ve provided for us. They’re amazing. They deserve much more than what we’re able to do this playoff run”

Brunson dedicated a letter to NY in April 2024, saying how lucky he is to be a part of the Knicks and how he’s learning so much under the guidance of Tom Thibedeau. He wrote, “We’re taking that culture, the grit we know we have, that hunger and desire to win, to the playoffs. We’re doing it our way. We have a great opportunity in front of us”. He further quoted, ” To the fans: You make a difference for us. I just want to make that abundantly clear. Without you, the Knicks aren’t the Knicks. The unconditional love and support has been phenomenal.”

It’s surreal how just a month down the line he would be asking for the fans to have mercy on him, all that with a fractured left hand. When Brunson exited the game, New York was left with little to do. They had lost all hopes to overcome that huge deficit of 70-55 left during the half-time. Something went so wrong that the loudest basketball arena and the loudest fans of New York went quiet in the middle of the game.

There was pin-drop silence on the part of the rather rowdy Knicks fan club. Yes, you read that correctly.

What went wrong for Jalen Brunson and the Knicks in Game 7?

Indiana was strong since they first entered the court, later ending up shooting 67.1% from the field. Pacers’ Tyrese Haliburton led his team on his shoulders, scoring 26 points, 6 assists, and 4 rebounds. Defensively, the Indiana side was wonderfully fresh and dominant. But the Knicks weren’t in order. They were injury-ridden and not comfortable. All of a sudden, it was all a house of cards for the Knicks that came crashing down with just one whiff of air.

At first, they were already playing without Julius Randle, Bojan Bogdanovic, and Mitchell Robinson. But then OG Anunoby went out of the game after the first 5 minutes of the game, never coming back. Josh Hart, too, was on and off, struggling with abdominal pain. And you all know what went down with Brunson. His season finished in the locker room. Among the many injuries he sustained this year, his fracture came in the third quarter, ending all hopes. Suddenly we saw someone else subbing for him when we got to know that Brunson had left the court for good.

Tonight, only Donte DiVincenzo and Alec Burks from NYC performed a bit better than all of their talent combined. Meanwhile, the Pacers showered offenses on the New York side, drowning them in the weight of their champion, Tyrese Haliburton. Haliburton was surprisingly a wonderful addition to his team, who was celebrating. As soon as people saw his gameplay, they predicated their win by double digits. Pascal Siakam took care of the other end of this winning agenda. While Tyrese added 26 points, Siakam added 20 points.

The Pacers got the opportunity to flex their roster depth. They were on fire, finishing the high-spirited Knicks. As the New York fans get sad over today’s loss, the Pacers will now tackle the Celtics in the Conference Finals.
