The Los Angeles Lakers got a much-needed win against the Memphis Grizzlies tonight. The Lakers headed into tonight’s game as the 10th seed and a tied 45-35 record with Golden State and Sacramento. While the Lakers would have expected an easy win against the shorthanded Grizzlies, Memphis put up a tough fight and took the game to the wire. It took a 37-point performance from LeBron James to help the Lakers get a 123-120 win. LeBron also made a clutch play to seal the game in the final seconds that even garnered a hilarious reaction from Grizzlies injured superstar Ja Morant.
With 15 seconds remaining in the 4th quarter and the Lakers leading by 3 points, the Grizzlies had a chance to tie the game with a 3-pointer. But LeBron made a clutch steal following a Grizzlies’ miss and finished the play with a wild reverse dunk. The highlight play extended the Lakers lead to 5 points and sent the Grizzlies arena into a frenzy. The dunk also led to a hilarious exchange between LeBron and Ja Morant. LeBron’s momentum after the dunk took him to the Grizzlies bench, and Ja jokingly shoved the 4-time Champion back to the court. LeBron backpedalled to the court, smiling and wiggling his shoulders in celebration.

Everyone expected the Lakers to win tonight because the Grizzlies had 13 players out for the game due to various injuries. The list included superstars Ja Morant, Desmond Bane, Jaren Jackson Jr., and Marcus Smart. Even though LeBron James and Co. beat the Grizzlies, it might be concerning that they won by only a 3-point difference. The Lakers will face the New Orleans Pelicans in their final regular season game on Sunday. If they let the game get so close as they did tonight, the Pelicans might beat them easily and ruin their chances to bag a higher seed.
