He did it again! Two years have passed since Ja Morant first got in trouble for displaying a firearm during an Instagram live while partying at a Denver nightclub. His controversial antics led to an eight-game suspension. Two months later—it happened again. This time, it was inside a car on his friend’s live stream and the suspension lasted for 25 games. But it looks like Ja hasn’t learned his lesson despite multiple penalties.

During Tuesday’s Warriors encounter, the Grizzlies star went viral for making finger guns sign at Buddy Hield during a timeout. Even Hield responded to the act with the same gesture. As expected, both players got penalized with a technical foul while others looked on in confusion. Once the video caught public’s attention, NBA took strict action and initiated an investigation into Ja and Buddy mimicking the act of shooting a gun.

The final verdict as per veteran insider Shams Charania, “NBA issued warnings—no further penalties—to Grizzlies’ Ja Morant and Warriors’ Buddy Hield along with both teams for gestures on Tuesday night, sources tell ESPN. League ruled the celebrations were not intended to be violent in nature, but inappropriate and should refrain.” Despite Adam Silver’s stern warning, Morant used the same gesture again during tonight’s Heat clash.

It happened in the first quarter after Ja hit a pull back three. He used the finger gun action as a celebration, and the live broadcast caught a glimpse of it. Although there was no on-court penalty this time, Ja got an earful from the hoop community.

NBA World urges Adam Silver to suspend Ja Morant after he ignores NBA’s warning

Soon after the clip went viral, fans were left fuming by Ja’s repeated antics. One viewer wrote, “I was watching with my kids and I literally had to turn my TV off. My 4-year-old son was asking what that gesture meant and I seriously didn’t know what to tell him. I’m literally shaking and crying in anger how can Adam Silver allow this to happen under his watch.” Meanwhile, many other netizens shared a similar sentiment as comments like “THIN ICE BUDDY!” and “Bro is just asking for it, not even funny smh” began flooding in.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Ja Morant's behavior a sign of immaturity, or is the NBA overreacting to harmless gestures?

Have an interesting take?

Sure enough, many believe that Ja deserves strict punishment for ignoring the league’s warning and urged Adam Silver to suspend him. One wrote, “Doing it after a warning is crazy. Adam really about to suspend him going into the playoffs smh” while another said, “Suspend him for the rest of the games this season, leave him eligible for playoffs. Guys a f—— fool.”

Well, NBA will likely take some action following the public outrage and because of the fact that Ja did exactly what he was told not to. Amid the criticism, Ja was also called out by the on-air TNT announcers for spending “too much time crying and blaming teammates/refs right now.”

While most fans were furious at Ja’s gun gesture, some seemed okay with it and called out the NBA for their double standard. One netizen wrote, “It’s legit just a sniper celebration nothing wrong with it” while another even highlighted multiple players who have used a similar celebration before, “A gun celebration was never a problem in the NBA until Ja Morant did it.”

Yes, several players, including Scottie Barnes and Mikal Bridges, have used the gun celebration after making a big shot. Even LeBron James has done it occasionally. But obviously, when Ja does it, his history of getting in trouble for showing an actual gun on social media also comes into play.

Do you think Ja’s finger gun gesture should be treated as a regular celebration or should Adam Silver penalize him for the repeated offense? Let us know in the comments.
