Guess what? Ja Morant actually kept his word—no more dunks. Well, mostly. Don’t let that fool you, though. His athleticism is still off the charts. You can try, but there’s no stopping him. On Saturday, against the Timberwolves, he proved it again. The Grizzlies’ head coach, Taylor Jenkins, couldn’t stop gushing. Even the rivals are talking. Because when Ja’s on the court, resistance is futile.

Ja Morant delivered when it mattered most. Back-to-back clutch buckets in the final minute sealed a 127-125 win for the Grizzlies over the Timberwolves. It wasn’t his best shooting night—just 5-of-19 for 12 points—but who cares? When the game’s on the line, Ja shows up. Therefore, speaking in the post-game presser, Taylor Jenkins had to take him moment to compliment the 25-year-old point guard.

“I know it was a struggle. You know, thinking of the game,” Jenkins said about Morant. “Thinking at the end of the game he was getting great looks. His point of attack on offense was great. He was creating so much for us. Just couldn’t get the ball to fall through. I thought his competitiveness as the game went on was defensively improved and thrown out different looks out there.”

Currently averaging 21.0 points per game, 4.4 rebounds, 7.5 assists, and a brilliant 43.9 FG%, Ja Morant is having one of the best seasons of his career so far. It’s because of the points that he and the rest of the Memphis Grizzlies are putting up that have secured them as the 3rd seed of the West.

The point guard has suffered from endless injuries throughout his journey in the NBA so far. In the past, he’s been suspended for his “detrimental conduct to the league.” But, nothing, literally nothing can ever suppress raw, real talent. And Ja Morant is the epitome of the notion.

Meanwhile, the stars from the East (Boston Celtics) have yet to move on from the show, Morant had put on Dec 7, 2024. There is no way it’s going to be easy for Payton Pritchard and Derrick White to forget the mayhem Ja brought to the court, snatching the game away in a clean sweep.

The Boston Celtics duo Payton Pritchard and Derrick White were guests at The Young Man and The Three podcast recently. As the reigning champions of the NBA, the point guards spoke about their game and how things are evolving. However, interestingly enough, they have a list of players who have given them the “Woah! What was that?” moment on the court. And one of those players is Ja Morant. The duo was asked: “Has there been a moment when you’ve been on the court and this can be one of your teammates as well? It doesn’t have to be happening to you where you’ve had just like you’ve been in awe of what you just witnessed.”

Derrick White began by saying: “Yeah, it just happened recently. Yeah. Ja Morant. It was crazy. I think it’s like just some of the athletic stuff that happens. Yeah. I mean, watching some of the stuff JB does, it’s impressive. You just like, how is this possible?” Well, Jaylen Brown is an absolute beast on the court, the aggression he brings in the games is at par or maybe more than Morant’s.

Meanwhile, Pritchard took his moment to appreciate Derrick White and added: “Sometimes his timing, Jrue, how he can move laterally defending. He always is able to cut guys off without cutting them off. Like just his awareness. JT at his size, the way he can shoot it, dribble in half court. Yeah, we’re getting to that.” But, the Ja Morant thing is just a pure explosiveness standpoint, feels like it almost is physiologically impossible to do some of the stuff that he does. Thus, both White and Pritchard admitted: “So, he’s a freak.”
